Il  belga Jasper Stuyven (Trek Factory Racing) vince allo sprint l'8a tappa della Vuelta di Spagna - Chaves sempre in rosso
Tappa falcidiata da incidenti: una maxi caduta mette a KO, Boeckmans, Bouanni, Van Garderen, Daniel Martin, costretti al ritiro - Anche Sagan buttato giù da una moto, giunge al'arrivo in grave ritardo.

Murcia (Spagna), 29 agosto 2015 - Jasper Stuyven ha vinto allo sprint l'8a tappa della Vuelta di Spagna, da Puebla de Don Fadrique a Murcia, di 182,5 chilometri.
Il belga della Treck Factory Racing ha anticipato sul rettifilo di Murcia, lo spagnolo Peio Bilbao (Caja rural-Saguros) e il francese Kèvin Reza (Fdj).
Quarto l'italiano Giovanni Visconti (Team Movistar).
Quinto classificato l'altro italiano Kristian Sbaragli che corre per la sudafricana Mtn-Qhubeka.

Immutata la classifica con Il colombiano Esteban Chaves (Orica Greenedge) che conserva la maglia rossa di leader della classifica generale, con un vantaggio di 10" sull'olandese Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin), e di 36" sull'irlandese Nicolas Roche (Team Sky).

Fabio Aru (Astana), è settimo nella generale, primo degli italiani, a 57".
Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r La mondiale) è  nono a 1'19".

La tappa di oggi è stata sconvolta da una maxi caduta che ha coinvolto fra i tanti quattro corridori in maniera grave, in particolare il belga  Kris Boeckmans, il corridore della Lotto Soudal che è rimasto a terra per molti minuti,  per poi essere trasportato in ospedale. Stessa sorte con altre conseguenze che ne hanno decretato il ritiro, per l'americano Tejay Van Garderen, l'asso francese delle volate Nacer Bouhanni e l'irlandese Daniel Martin.

Nella caduta sono rimasti coinvolti anche Simon Gerrans (Orica GreenEDGE), colpito da trauma faccialei, Frank Schleck (Trek) e Boy van Poppel (Trek) che sono riusciti a ripartire concludendo la tappa. 

Sfortuna anche per Peter Sagan, addirittura urtato e fatto cadere da una motocicletta del cambio ruote, quando stava raggiungendo i battistrata per giocarsi la vittoria. L'alfiere della Tikoff-Saxo, è giunto al traguardo con parecchi minuti di ritardo, cedendo la leadership nella classifica a punti al colombiano Esteban Chaves, il corridore dell'Orica GreenEDGE in maglia rossa.
Il motociclista è stato espulso dalla corsa mentre per Sagan comminata una multa di 300 franchi svizzeri per comportamento offensivo verso il conducente della moto, vietato dal regolamento. Domani si prenderà una decisione in merito all'eventuale ritiro dello slovacco dalla Vuelta, per andare a preparare il mondiale su strada che si disputerà il prossimo 27 settembre a Richmond.

Domani è in programma la 9a tappa, da Torrevieja a Cumbre del Sol Benitatxell, per 168,3 chilometri, con due modeste salite, la seconda nel finale lunga 4 chilometri con arrivo in salita. (di Andrea Magnani)
 
Kris BoeckmansIl Bollettino medico di Kris Boeckmans:

Grave trauma facciale con diverse fratture, che probabilmente hanno bisogno di un intervento chirurgico . Boeckmans ha anche una commozione cerebrale, tre costole rotte e aveva una emorragia polmomnare. I medici ora lo stanno tenendo in coma indotto per un paio di giorni.

La BMC Racing Team ha perso Tejay van Garderen che in seguito alla caduta odierna, ha subito la frattura della spalla destra.

PETER SAGAN,, Amici, ho avuto una bella giornata... Poteva essere una buona tappa, ho pensato prima della partenza. Quando è mancato l'obiettivo a circa 10 km dall'arrivo, ero in un gruppo che inseguiva un'altro più piccolo, ho scelto di inseguirli, nessuno degli altri voleva andare e quando gli gli stavo mostrando la mano per incitarli, sono volato per strieda! Una moto. Non so nemmeno com'è andata, ho solo sentito il dolore della ferita  sulla schiena quando so mi sono trovato a terra... La moto non l'ho vista, e' andata via. 
Sapevo che qualcuno dell'organizzazione mi ha fatto cadere, qualcuno di i motociclisti, che si occupano per la nostra sicurezza. Mi sono alzato, ho cercato di capire se avevo qualcosa di rotto. Ero in quel momento ero molto arrabbiato, ma sono andato dopo l'arrivo a chiarirmi con il colpevole che ha provocato il mio incidente...
Voglio dire apertamente che non sono per niente entusiasta, perché questi incidenti accadono spesso! I corridori sono in silenzio e questo silenzio passerà... Ad esempio, a San Sebastian è stato fatto cadere Van Avermaet in salita, si stanno utilizzando motociclisti che non sanno guidare il loro mezzo.... Ad una sucessiva corsa gli organizzatori hanno lasciato cartelli stradali, restringimenti sulla strada verso un arrivo allo sprint, circa duecento metri prima del traguardo, dove c'è stata poi una grossa caduta e tutto è passata in silenzio... Non mi piacciono questi incidenti nati dal manacato rispetto per la nostra sicurezza, una moto pesa 200 kg, se oggi mi investiva, cosa potrebbe succedermi? Per fortuna ho solo abrasioni sul corpo,  in particolare la gamba e la mano. Ma potrebbe essere andata anche peggio... Tuttavia, sono qui in albergo, vivo e vegeto!
Dopo il mio incidente, mi sono arrabbiato davvero molto, perchè la moto è scappata via e anche uno calmo come mè ha un limite. E inoltre, un'altra cosa ridicola, ho ricevuto una multa di 200 franchi per cattiva condotta e 100 franchi per cattiva pubblicità al Ciclismo...
Cosa? Beh niente! Sono seduto in camera e mi domando cosa sia successo... In primo luogo, non sono il colpevole della caduta, maciullato, ma che mi ha fatto l'organizzazione? Una multa... È possibile?
So che devo accettare la sanzione, ma vi sembro uno stupido?  Al diavolo, così è la vita e andiamo avanti. ..........segue.......... Cosa devo fare io? Dove sono i miei diritti? Devo fare i bagagli e andarmene a casa? Mi chiedo se qualcosa dopo la mia caduta cambierà, ma probabilmente nulla... La mia opinione è che da oggi già qualcosa nel ciclsmo dovrebbe cambiare per migliorare la sicurezza in corsa!"

Heavy crash of Kris Boeckmans overshadows strong collective performance in Vuelta

Today the eighth stage of the Vuelta was scheduled, between Puebla de Don Fadrique and Murcia. It was an emotional day for Lotto Soudal. Fifty kilometres before the finish there was a big crash in the peloton, Kris Boeckmans was one of the main victims. At that moment Jasper De Buyst was part of a breakaway of six, which would be reeled in before the second ascent of the Alto de la Cresta del Gallo (3rd category).


There were a series of attacks on the climb, with top at seventeen kilometres of the end. After some different situations Elissonde, Gonçalves and Losada were riding in front. In the chasing group Jurgen Van den Broeck was pulling together with guys of Trek and Tinkoff Saxo. With three and a half kilometres to go the leading trio got caught. One and a half kilometres further Adam Hansen took his chance, but the chasing group passed by the Australian in the last hectometres. Tosh Van der Sande then sprinted to the sixth place. The victory went to Jasper Stuyven.

 

Tosh Van der Sande: “After we had climbed the Cresta del Gallo for the second time I rode in the chasing group together with three teammates (Bart De Clercq, Adam Hansen and Jurgen Van den Broeck, LTS). Jurgen Van den Broeck did an excellent job chasing down the leaders. In the last kilometres Adam attacked. I already got at the head of the group about 400 metres before the finish, when Adam was still ahead of us, that turned out to be too soon. The riders behind me were racing at a higher speed. I hesitated for a moment and got boxed in. A pity, you don’t often get chances like this.”

 

“Congratulations to Jasper Stuyven, but I would have loved to be the one to take his first pro victory here. I am hugely disappointed, because it could have been me. I felt as strong as Jasper, this was a major opportunity. The positive thing is that I notice that I got stronger, that I can survive such a tough finale. I’m looking forward to more of this, I’m ready! Like, the stage on Monday, with a second category climb at just over fifteen kilometres of the finish.”
 

“Of course we are all thinking of Kris tonight. I was riding just behind him when it happened. He was drinking when he rode over a hole, tumbled over his handlebar and hit the ground very hard.”


Kris Boeckmans was taken to a hospital in Murcia, this was the diagnosis: the 28-year-old rider has a severe facial trauma with several fractures, he’ll probably need surgery. Boeckmans also has a concussion, three broken ribs and had a bleeding in his lung. The doctors will now keep him in an induced coma for a few days.

La LAMPRE-MERIDA non è riuscita per la prima volta nella Vuelta a Espana 2015 ad avere un rappresentante nella prima fuga consistente di giornata, nonostante ciò è riuscita a mostrare ancora l'impostazione di squadra di attacco grazie a Kristijan Durasek (nella foto Bettini, alla partenza).

L'8^frazione della corsa spagnola ha proposto un percorso di 182,5 km con partenza da Puebla de Don Fadrique e arrivo a Murcia, con la doppia ascesa dell'Alto de la Cresta del Gallo (la prima a 36 km dal traguardo, la seconda ai -17 km) a movimentare la gara.
In realtà ci ha pensato una grossa caduta a 50 km dal percorso, quando ancora i 6 fuggitivi della prima ora (notizia: nessun atleta blu-fucsia-verde) guidavano la corsa, a scompaginare i programmi di molte squadre, causando il ritiro di alcuni corridori di punta quali Martin e Van Garderen.
Per la LAMPRE-MERIDA, pur non finendo a terra Oliveira e Plaza hanno dovuto inseguire dopo aver ricevuto assistenza meccanica, mentre Conti è caduto, senza riportare conseguenze fisiche.

La fuga non ha avuto ulteriore spazio e, con il gruppo tornato compatto dopo il primo passaggio sull'Alto de la Cresta del Gallo, la lotta si è accesa sulla seconda ascesa, con Durasek capace di dimostrare tutto il suo potenziale di scalatore rientrando sul duo Brambilla-Roosen che aveva preso il comando della gara.
La discesa dopo lo scollinamento ha riportato molti corridori sui battistrada (Richeze ha mancato l'aggancio in cima alla salita per poche decine di metri), formando un gruppo di 50 atleti che, tra cadute e attacchi, arriva comunque compatto allo sprint, nel quale Durasek coglie la 17^posizione. Vittoria per Stuyven su Bilbao.

"Ci sono stati molti scatti anche oggi, la media nella prima parte di corsa è stata alta, quando sono usciti finalmente dal gruppo solo 6 atleti, abbiamo valutato che erano troppo pochi per poter resistere fino in fondo all'inseguimento del plotone, oggi deciso a tenere la corsa chiusa - ha spiegato il ds Maini - Cadute e colpi di scena hanno movimentato la gara, noi abbiamo trovato un grandissimo Durasek che ci ha permesso di giocarci le nostre carte fino alla fine. 
Rimane il rammarico per Richeze, oggi in grandissima forma: Max era stato grande a restare in scia della prima parte del gruppo nel secondo passaggio sulla salita, purtroppo per pochi metri ha mancato l'aggancio che gli avrebbe consentito sicuramente di arrivare a disputare la volata per la vittoria".

For the first time in Vuelta a Espana 2015, LAMPRE-MERIDA was not represented by one of its riders in the first breakaway of the stage, however the attacking mood of the team was well depicted by Kristijan Durasek (in photo Bettini, the Croatian climber at the start).

The 8th stage of the Spanish race was held on the distance of 182,5 km with start from Puebla de Don Fabrique and arrival in Murcia after two passages on the climb of Alto de la Cresta del Gallo (first one at 36 km to go and second one at -17 km).
Before the double passage on the mountain, a crash livened up the stage at 50 km to go, when still 6 riders (surprise, no blue-fuchsia-green cyclists among the members) were leading the race: some top riders, such as Martin and Van Garderen, had to quit the Vuelta, while for LAMPRE-MERIDA Oliveira and Plaza had to chase the group after having received mechanical assistance.

The peloton was once again united on the first passage on the Alto de la Cresta del Gallo, but on the second ascension Durasek demonstrated his climbing skills by realizing an impressive attack which allowed him to join the duo Brambilla-Roosen who were leading the stage in that moment.
The downhilll gave to other riders the opportunity to come back on the head of the race, for a leading group of 50 cyclists: despite some crashes and further attacks, the group battled in a massive sprint in which Durasek was 17th; victory for Styuven on Bilbao.

"Many escape attempts and high speed in the first part of today stage too: when only 6 riders succeeded in escaping from the bunch, we knew that they would had few chances to avoid the chase of the peloton, which had the will to don't give freedom to the breakaways - sport director Maini explained - The crash change the plans of many teams, but Durasek allowed us to be in the head of the race: he was great and he battled until the end of the race.
Richeze too realized a good performance, thanks to great legs which gave him the opportunity to be just behind the top riders group on the second passage on the climb: for few meters, he could not join this group and so he lost the opportunity to take part in the final sprint in which he would had fought for a top result".

La Vuelta a Espana #8: Kristian Sbaragli digs deep to finish 5th

Teamwork keeps Louis in the GC hunt

Kristian Sbaragli showed his fighting spirit today at the Vuelta a Espana 8th stage by taking 5th place on an extremely tough stage. The victory went to Jasper Stuyven (Trek Factory Racing) with Pello Bilbao (Caja-Rural) 2nd and Kevin Reza (FDJ) 3rd.

The stage saw 6 rider’s escape from the peloton early on but with a maximum advantage of just over 4 minutes, it was inevitable that they would be caught. Just before the catch was made though, there was a huge crash in the peloton that took down numerous riders. Louis Meintjes was caught behind this crash, which rang alarm bells in our MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung camp.

The peloton had split in two after the crash and it was thanks to the monumental effort of the MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung boys that Louis made it back to the front group just before the race hit the cat 3 climb that would be raced twice. 

There were a few attacks the first time over the summit and 3 riders got away but they weren't really able to open up a meaningful gap. After a quick local lap we hit the climb for the 2nd time and the likes of Valverde and Rodriguez really pushed the pace, putting all the sprinters into difficulty.

Over the top it was all splintered at the front of the race but both Louis and Kristian were hanging tough in the front. After the descent there was a regrouping of the lead 50 riders with just 9km to go. Numerous attacks then flew off the front but Louis would be the consummate professional and helped to follow everything in order to set Kristian up for the sprint. In the end, Kristian hit the front with 200m to go but heartbreakingly, our Italian was passed meters before the line to come home in 5th place.

After the crash claimed a number of key riders, Louis moved up to 14th position on the general classification.

It was a really hard stage and we weren't sure if I was able to make it over the climb the 2nd time. I had to give it everything just to stay in the first 30 positions on the climb. I was really happy with my performance on the climb. Unluckily for Sagan he crashed in the final so there was no longer any sprinters left and I was thinking I must be one of the fastest riders in the group. I thought maybe I started the sprint too early but if you look at it, for a normal sprint it wasn't too early. It was just a bit early for such a tough day like today. About 2 seconds before the finish I sat up because I was on my limit and they passed me with just 30 meters to go and that was the worst part of the day. When you feel the victory and then they pass you on the line it is not a good feeling. I am not going to give up, there are maybe still 2 or 3 chances before Madrid so I hope to take advantage them.

It was hectic in the final but the team did a very good ride today. Like we said in our meeting, it could possibly be a really good chance for Kristian if he can make it over the climb in a small group. The group was smaller than we anticipated so that was very good by Kristian to be there. Entering the local laps there was a big crash and Louis was involved. Everybody waited for him to pace him back just before the climb so that was a perfect job too. Kristian also did a very good sprint but they just came passed with about 20 meters to go. It was so, so close today. We have never been so close to a victory at the Vuelta before.
