Vejer de la Frontera (Spain), August 25th, 2015 - It was another tough climb at the finish of stage four of the Vuelta a España, the longest one so far, 209 km from Estepona to Vejer de la Frontera. In the last four kilometers, that included hard slopes, short descents and winding curves, the main protagonists were the Classics specialists. Winner was Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), who proved to be faster than Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) and Daniel Moreno (Katusha) on the final meters, while Esteban Chaves (Orica-GreenEDGE) came home tenth and kept the leader’s jersey.
For Team Colombia-Coldeportes, who didn’t send a rider in the escape for the first time at this edition of the Vuelta, best finisher of the day was Rodolfo Torres – 40th – 45 seconds behind the winner. “It was a very hard finish, a punchy climb, which we tried, with the help of the team, to tackle in a good position – Rodolfo said. - Unfortunately, we were held back by a crash that occurred just a couple of kilometers before, and we had to spend chasing some valuable energies in the view of the final climb”. Torres has now moved to 37th overall, 3:05 behind Esteban Chaves.
In an intense day with high temperatures, six men – Markel Irizar (Trek), Mickaël Delage (FDJ), Jimmy Engoulvent (Europcar), Nikolas Maes (Etixx-Quickstep), Kristijan Durasek (Lampre-Merida) and Bert-Jan Lindeman (LottoNL-Jumbo) – received the peloton’s permission to go in the break, were they quickly established a 13-minute gap, before Orica-GreenEdge began working to cut into that margin. With around 100 km left, Peter Sagan’s Tinkoff-Saxo came at the forefront and successfully caught the escapees before hitting the last 15 kilometers.
On the final ascent, Movistar and Katusha took command of the pack, with the first guiding Valverde towards the victory, after controlling the attacks that came on the slopes and reeling in Samuel Sanchez (BMC) and Nicolas Roche (Team Sky). During the day, Leonardo Duque hit the ground, fortunately without any consequences, while he was rejoining the bunch following a puncture.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, stage five – from Rota to Alcala da Guadaira (167 km) – will let the riders catch their breath. The day is a flat one, except the final kilometers, where a rising road will see the sprinters fight for victory.

Vejer de la Frontera (España), 25 de agosto 2015 - Fue otro durísimo repechón el que dio fin a la cuarta etapa de la Vuelta a España, la más larga hasta ahora, con 209 km de Estepona a Vejer de la Frontera. En los últimos 4 km, entre tramos con pendientes durísimas, bajadas cortas y curvas sinuosas, se desarrolló un cara a cara entre los especialistas de las clásicas. Quien se impuso fue Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), más rápido que Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) y Daniel Moreno (Katusha) en los últimos metros, mientras que Esteban Chaves (Orica-GreenEDGE), décimo, ha mantenido el maillot de líder.
Por el Team Colombia-Coldeportes, que por primera vez en esta Vuelta no ha colocado a sus hombres en la fuga del día, el mejor fue Rodolfo Torres, 40º a 45 segundos del vencedor. "Fue una llegada muy dura, una subida de potencia que con la ayuda de todo el equipo hemos tratado de abordar en buena posición, - dice Rodolfo, - por desgracia nos quedamos atrapados en un accidente pocos kilómetros antes, y tuvimos que gastar una energía que habría sido de gran ayuda en el final". Torres se coloca ahora en el puesto 37º de la general, con 3:05 a recuperar con respecto a Esteban Chaves.
En otro día de intenso calor en España, seis hombres - Markel Irizar (Trek), Mickael Delage (FDJ), Jimmy Engoulvent (Europcar), Nikolas Maes (Etixx-Quickstep), Kristijan Durasek (Lampre-Merida) y Bert- Ene Lindeman (LottoNL-Jumbo) - han encontrado rápidamente el vía libre del pelotón, ganando hasta más de 13 minutos de ventaja antes de que el Orica-GreenEDGE comenzase a trabajar para reducir dicho margen. A cerca de 100 km de la conclusión ha tomado el control el Tinkoff-Saxo de Peter Sagan, que ha ido reduciendo diferencias hasta llegar a la reunificación habida a 15 km del final.
Ya en la última subida, Movistar y Katusha tomaron el mando de las operaciones en un largo esprint de 4 kilómetros que ha dominado Valverde, hábil en gestionar energía y posición después del último y peligroso ataque liderado por Samuel Sánchez (BMC) y Nicolas Roche (Team Sky). Por los Escarabajos, cabe señalar una caída sin consecuencias de Leonardo Duque, que terminó en el suelo cuando regresaba al grupo después de un pinchazo.
Mañana, miércoles, la quinta etapa, que irá de Rota a Alcalá de Guadaira (167 km) permitirá a los atletas recuperar un poco el aliento. La etapa no tiene dificultades altimétricas y su llegada en una ligera pendiente no podrá por menos que ver a los velocistas en primera fila para la victoria.

Vejer de la Frontera (Spagna), 25 Agosto 2015 - E’ stato un altro durissimo strappo finale a concludere la 4a tappa della Vuelta a Espana, la più lunga fino a questo momento con i suoi 209 km da Estepona a Vejer de la Frontera. Negli ultimi 4 km, fra tratti con pendenze durissime, brevi discese e curve tortuose, è stato testa a testa fra gli specialisti delle Classiche. A prevalere è stato Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), più veloce di Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) e Daniel Moreno (Katusha) nei metri finali, mentre Esteban Chaves (Orica-GreenEDGE), decimo, ha conservato la maglia di leader della classifica.
Per il Team Colombia-Coldeportes, che per la prima volta in questa Vuelta non ha collocato uomini nella fuga di giornata, il migliore è stato Rodolfo Torres, 40° a 45 secondi dal vincitore. “Era un arrivo molto duro, una salita di potenza che con l’aiuto di tutta la squadra abbiamo cercato di affrontare in buona posizione, – racconta Rodolfo, - purtroppo siamo rimasti bloccati a causa di una caduta alcuni chilometri prima, e abbiamo dovuto spendere energie per recuperare che sarebbero state molto utili nel finale.” Torres si colloca ora in 37a posizione in classifica generale, con 3.05 da recuperare su Esteban Chaves.
In un’altra giornata di grande caldo in Spagna, sei uomini - Markel Irizar (Trek), Mickaël Delage (FDJ), Jimmy Engoulvent (Europcar), Nikolas Maes (Etixx-Quickstep), Kristijan Durasek (Lampre-Merida) e Bert-Jan Lindeman (LottoNL-Jumbo) – hanno trovato subito il via libera del gruppo, guadagnando fino a oltre 13 minuti prima che la Orica –GreenEDGE si mettesse al lavoro per ridurre il margine. A circa 100 km dal termine ha preso il comando delle operazioni la Tinkoff-Saxo di Peter Sagan, che ha significativamente riavvicinato il gruppo fino al definitivo ricongiungimento a 15 km dal termine.
Sull’ascesa finale, Movistar e Katusha hanno assunto il comando delle operazioni, in una lunga volata di 4 km che ha visto prevalere Valverde, abile a gestire energie e posizione dopo l’ultimo, pericoloso attacco portato da Samuel Sanchez (BMC) e Nicolas Roche (Team Sky). Per gli Escarabajos da segnalare anche una caduta, senza conseguenze, di Leonardo Duque, terminato a terra mentre rientrava sul gruppo a seguito di una foratura.
Domani, mercoledì, la quinta tappa da Rota ad Alcalà de Guadaira (167 km) permetterà agli atleti di tirare un po’ il fiato: la frazione non presenta infatti grandi difficoltà altimetriche, e un arrivo in leggera pendenza non potrà che vedere i velocisti in prima fila per il successo.
