LA VUELTA A ESPAÑA - STAGE 14
PIERRE-LUC PÉRICHON,
BREAKAWAY WITH THE STRONGEST

After a great battle, Pierre-Luc Périchon managed to integrate the day's breakaway. It went all the way to the finishing line and the Frenchman took an honourable 7th place. Tomorrow, the profile of the stage could lead to a similar scenario and the Cofidis team will do everything to be ready for it again.

After a rest day and a time-trial under the sun yesterday, the peloton was back together again this Wednesday with 204,7 km to go in the green countryside of Galicia, between Lugo and Ourense. At Cofidis, we knew that the stage could allow a breakaway to go until the finish line. That's what happened and just like so many times on this Vuelta, the team was active throughout the day.
Martin tried, Périchon succeeded

From the first kilometres on, the battle was intense and the breakaway was formed. Guillaume Martin tried his luck in the group of 26 riders, but it didn’t stay ahead for a long time, before it merged with the rest of the peloton. The leader of the Cofidis team tried again a few kilometres later.

But the perfect breakaway of the day came a little later on. And a Cofidis rider was among them: Pierre-Luc Périchon. So helpful to Guillaume Martin since the beginning of the Vuelta, Pierre-Luc has joined a strong breakaway together with Woods, van Baarle, Soler and the winner of the day, Wellens.

Already the 6th 'top 10' for Cofidis at the Vuelta

Pierre-Luc Périchon stayed with them until the last kilometres. He took the opportunity to score some points in the mountain classification, in particular by taking the lead on the first climb. At the finish, he took an honourable 7th place, the 6th 'top 10' for Cofidis since the beginning of this Vuelta.

Tomorrow, the stage will have quite a similar profile to the one of today. The stage between Mos and Puebla de Sanabria will be long (230,8 km) and marked by 5 climbs of 1st category. Again, there will be a lot of riders who would like the breakaway to go to the end, even at Cofidis! Thus, important to be followed carefully before the last two mountain stages.

GUILLAUME MARTIN SAID...
"It was another very fast day where we struggled a lot to be able to catch the breakaway. We were among the big group of riders together with Victor Lafay. Finally, Pierre-Luc Périchon managed to enter the right breakaway and to "protect" the points in the breakaway. Once again, Cofidis was at the front and this is a very good news. Another great day! »
