u23 Giro d'Italia: Lineup

The Dimension Data for Qhubeka Continental team are all geared up for their biggest goal race of the season, the u23 Giro d'Italia. The "u23 grand tour" is set to take place from 13-23 June.

The organisers of the u23 Giro d'Italia revealed the list of teams invited to their event last week, in-line with their points based selection policy. As an Italian registered team, our Continental Team led the list of 16 teams, as the number one ranked team in the country.

14 of the best international teams will also compete at the u23 Giro, with an additional mixed team completing what will be a peloton of future champions.

Dimension Data for Qhubeka will start as hot favourites from a local perspective, with the two young and in-form Italian riders, Matteo Sobrero and Samuele Battistella leading the team.

South African, Connor Brown & Moroccan, El Mehdi Chokri will be joined by Italian's Luca Mozzato & Alexander Konychev to complete our 6-rider team.

The race will start with a prologue in Riccone, followed by 9 road stages, mostly suited to riders with strong climbing abilities.

"The u23 Giro is probably our most important race of the season, particularly for an Italian rider like me. It carries the same name as the Giro d'Italia, a race so many young riders all around the world aspire to be part of. Our team has enjoyed some nice success this year already and we hope to take this positive momentum into the u23 Giro. It is a really difficult course this year, but we have a really good team, which has prepared well for the race." - Matteo Sobrero

Team Dimension Data For Qhubeka

Founded in 2007, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka became the first ever African cycling team to gain a WorldTour license, in 2016. The team has bases in South Africa, the Netherlands and Italy. It’s also known as Africa’s Team due to its focus on helping African talents to the world stage of cycling.

Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka races for something bigger than wins. Through our relationship with Qhubeka, a global charity operating in South Africa, we raise awareness for #BicyclesChangeLives.

Qhubeka gives people a helping hand up by providing them with bicycles through its learn-to-earn and work-to-earn programmes. That’s what the hand on our team race jersey stands for. It’s a reminder that every Qhubeka bicycle is a helping hand to a Qhubeka beneficiary.

By supporting #BicyclesChangeLives you can help children to access education and help support skills development and job creation in South Africa.

Qhubeka

Qhubeka is a charity that moves people forward with bicycles.  People earn bicycles through our programmes, improving their access to schools, clinics and jobs.

A bicycle is a tool that helps people to travel faster and further, and to carry more. In the face of extreme and persistent poverty, bicycles can change lives by helping to address socioeconomic challenges at the most basic level – helping people to get where they need to go.
