Ha dovuto difendersi con grinta Rui Costa sul Mur de Bretagne, suggestivo arrivo dell'8^tappa del Tour de France (partenza da Rennes, 181,5 km di gara).
Il campione portoghese, ben scortato dai compagni di squadra nell'avvicinamento all'erta finale (2 km al 6,9% di pendenza media, con picchi del 10,1 %), per i primi metri dello strappo ha dato l'impressione di poter essere competitivo, soffrendo però il cambio di velocità imposto da Froome a circa 1400 metri dall'arrivo.
Con grinta, Rui Costa ha tenacemente mantenuto una buona velocità, seppur non pari a quella del vincitore Vuillermoz, di Martin (2°, +5”) e di Valverde (3°, +10”), tagliando il traguardo in 47^posizione a 45”.
“Oggi il ginocchio contuso nella caduta di lunedì mi ha dato buoni segnali, ma nonostante ciò non sono riuscito a esprimermi sul Murde Bretagne con una prestazione all'altezza delle mie aspettative – ha spiegato Rui Costa (foto Bettini) – Nella parte iniziale dellostrappo avevo una buona posizione, purtroppo poi la velocità si è alzata tantissimo e non ho avuto l'esplosività necessaria perreagire.
Mi spiace aver perso altri secondi, ma ho dato tutto quello che potevo. La qualità della concorrenza a questo Tour de France èaltissima e, nonostante mi sia allenato molto per preparare la Grande Boucle, devo dare sempre il massimo per poter avere buoneambizioni.
Non abbasso la guardia, con grinta guardo avanti”.
In classifica generale, Rui Costa è 23° a 4'33” da Froome.

Rui Costa had to focus his efforts on limiting the gap to the other top riders on the Mur de Bretagne, arrival of the 8th stage of the Tour de France (start in Rennes, stage lenght 181,5 km).
The Portuguese champion, who received the good support by his team mate in the approach of the final hill (2 km at 6,9%), seemed to be competitive in the first part of the climb (10,1%), but he suffered the increasing of the speed made by Froome at 1400 mt to the arrival .
Rui Costa used his grint to keep a good pace, which was anyway not enough high to competete for a goood result: he crossed the finish line in 47th place at 45" to the winner Vuillermoz.
"Today I had good feedbacks from the knee I hit in the crash on Monday, despite this fact I could not be competitive on the Mur de Bretagne as I had expected - Rui Costa (photo Bettini) explained - In the approach of the hill, I was feeling good, but the action by Froome was too explosive for me and I could not react".
In the overall classification, Rui Costa is 23rd at 4'33" to Froome.
