TOUR DE FRANCE - STAGE 20
GUILLAUME MARTIN :
"MY BEST TIME TRIAL AT TOUR DE FRANCE"

The leader of the Cofidis team passed the last big test of this Tour de France by achieving the 26th time in the time trial at La Planche des Belles Filles. He gained a place in the general classification (11st) and confirmed his place of 1st Frenchman before celebrating the end of this Tour de France with the whole team tomorrow on the Champs-Élysées.

An exceptional performance right until the end. This time trial at the Planche des Belles Filles offered a breathtaking show and Guillaume Martin took part in his own way. The leader of the Cofidis team scored the best time trial of his career at the Tour de France, "without doubt the most successful of his career".

Consistent preventive work

Since he joined the Cofidis team, a lot of tests and trials have been carried out, notably on improving and optimising his performance in order to help him gain precious seconds. He has also benefited from the technological improvements made by the team, such as the aerodynamics of his helmet and the performance textile used on time trial.

At the finish line, the rider set the 26th time at 4'39'' from Pogacar. This performance allowed him to gain a position in the general classification where he is now 11th and guaranteed to finish 1st Frenchman. Tomorrow, on the Champs-Élysées, he will be able to take full advantage of his new status. On another side - Elia Viviani, Christophe Laporte and Simone Consonni will do their utmost to play their card in the most prestigious cycling sprint on the planet.

REACTION
Guillaume MARTIN : " The start of the time trial, which took place on a flat, straight line, didn't work to my advantage. But then it got better and better and I finished well. It was my best time trial result in the Tour de France and probably one of the best in my career.

It's nice to see that the efforts and investments of time and hard work are paying off. This result and my position in the general classification is obviously very encouraging for the coming events, especially the World Championship and the Vuelta where I hope to be able to perform to the best of my abilities. We started the season late and I have no problem finishing it late. »
