Rui Costa ha provato con tutte le residue energie a centrare un successo nel Tour de France 2016.
Già in avanscoperta nella 19^ tappa, il portoghese della LAMPRE-MERIDA non ha esitato a unirsi all'attacco principale anche nella 20^ frazione, la Megève-Morzine di 146,5 km con, in sequenza, le ascese del Col des Aravis (2^categoria), del Col de la Colombière (1^categoria), del Col de la Ramaz (1^categoria) e del Col de Joux Plane (hors categorie, scollinamento a 12 km dal traguardo), onorando il dorsale rosso di "corridore più combattivo" indossato in gara.
Il gruppo oggi ha concesso maggiore spazio ai battistrada rispetto a quanto accaduto venerdì, così Rui Costa e gli altri corridori al comando della gara hanno lottato tra di loro per il successo di tappa: il drappello di testa è andato assottigliandosi salita dopo salita, portando il ciclista della LAMPRE-MERIDA a cogliere il 5° posto, a 1'43" dal vincitore Ion Izagirre.
Missione compiuta per Louis Meintjes.
Il giovane scalatore, partito da Rustenburg, città del Sud Africa settentiornale, ha scritto una pagina storica per il ciclismo, regalando al continente africano la prima top 10 nel Tour de France.
Meintjes ha compiuto questo passo con la maglia della LAMPRE-MERIDA: il corridore blu-fucsia-verde, giunto al traguardo con il gruppo della maglia gialla (14° a 4'14", foto Bettini) è 8° nella classifica generale, a 6'58" da Froome, con lo stesso distacco di Rodriguez, davanti all'atleta sudafricano per i centesimi di secondo.
Domenica, nella tappa finale Chantilly-Paris Champs Elysées, Meintjes potrà apporre la firma definitiva a questo importante capitolo della storia ciclistica.

Rui Costa tried hard once again to achieve a victory in the Tour de France 2016.
After having been in the main breakaway in the 19th stage, the Portuguese rider from LAMPRE-MERIDA joined today too the group of cyclists which went clear from the peloton in the early kilometers of the 20th stage, the Megève-Morzine of 146,5 km with the climbs of the Col des Aravis (2nd category), of the Col de la Colombière (1st category), of the Col de la Ramaz (1st category) and of the Col de Joux Plane (hors categorie, summit at 12 km to the arrival).
The peloton granted to the front group more freedom than what it was done on Saturday, so the attackers could battle for the stage victory: the stage leading group was selected climb after climb and Rui Costa reached the arrival in 5th position, at 1'14" to the winner Ion Izagirre.
Accomplished mission for Louis Meintjes, who's 8th in the general classification at 6'58" to Froome (same gap as Rodriguez, who however can rely on less hundredths of second).
The Sout African climber has written an historical page of the cycling, being the first African rider ever to complete the Tour de France in the top 10: today he reached the arrival in the yellow jersey group (14th at 4'14", photo Bettini) and tomorrow, in the final stage Chantilly-Paris Champs Elysées, he will put his signature on this masterpiece.
