Ruben Plaza, non pago del successo ottenuto nella 16^tappa del Tour de France, ci ha riprovato anche oggi.
La 18^frazione del Tour de France ripartiva da Gap, proprio dove lo spagnolo della LAMPRE-MERIDA aveva trionfato lunedì: percorso di 186,5 km con arrivo a Saint Jean de Maurienne dopo ben 7 Gpm.
Avvio di tappa in salita, con il Col de Bayard, sulle cui pendici un largo gruppo di 29 corridori si è sganciato dal plotone: Plaza ha risposto presente e assieme agli altri fuggitivi è riuscito a raggiungere un vantaggio massimo vicino ai 6'.
Lo spagnolo della LAMPRE-MERIDA (foto Bettini) non ha però trovato un altro spunto vincente che gli permettesse di seguire l'attacco decisivo di Bardet, partito dal drappello degli attaccanti negli ultimi chilometri del Col du Glandon, a 40 km dal traguardo.
Plaza è stato raggiunto dal gruppetto degli uomini di classifica, non forzando poi il passo sull'ultima ascesa di giornata (Lacets de Montvemiers) e sulla discesa verso il traguardo, completando la tappa in 22^posizione a 5'12" dal vincitore Bardet.
Maglia gialla sulle spalle di Froome, in attesa della 19^frazione, la Saint Jean de Maurienne-La Toussuire, tappa corta (138 km) ma con ben 1 Gpm hors categorie, 2 Gpm di 1^categoria (compreso l'arrivo in salita) e 1 Gpm di 2^categoria: LAMPRE-MERIDA attesa ancora in avanscoperta.

Rubén Plaza demonstrated to be very ambitious in the 18th stage of the Tour de France.
Three days ago he had obtained an impressive victory in Gap and in today stage, which started in the same city, he was protagonist in the main breakaway of the race.The course of 186,5 km of lenght, with 7 Kom and arrival in Saint Jean de Maurienne, became interesting immediately after the start: on the first climb, the Col de Bayard which was approached few kilometers in the stage, Plaza (photo Bettini) and other 28 riders succeded in escaping from the bunch.
The breakaway had a maximum advantage of 6', but Plaza today could not repeat the winning attack which gave him the success on Monday.
In fact, the Spanish rider could not react to the attack by Bardet on the final part of the Col du Glandon, at 40 km to the arrival.
Plaza dropped in the top riders group and he did not force on the last climb (Lacets de Montvemiers), crossing the finish line at the 22nd place, at 5'12" to the winner Bardet.
Froome is still the yellow jersey: tomorrow is scheduled the 19th stage, Saint Jean de Maurienne-La Toussuire, short stage (138 km) full of climbs, with one hors category Kom, two 1st category (included the summit arrival) and one 2nd category.
One certainty: LAMPRE-MERIDA will attack again.
