I colori blu-fucsia-verdi hanno trovato luce splendente nella 17^tappa del Tour de France, la Berna-Finhaut Emosson (184,5 km con tre salite di 3^categoria, seguite negli ultimi 30 km dall'ascesa di 1^categoria del Col de la Forclaz e dall'arrivo in salita hors categorie), grazie a due scalatori puri come Kristijan Durasek e Louis Meintjes.
Il corridore croato è stato in lizza per il successo di tappa, concludendo la lunga cavalcata nella fuga principale di giornata al 4° posto, mentre il giovane sudafricano ha tenuto testa ancora una volta agli uomini di classifica, rientrando nella top 10 della graduatoria generale.
Durasek è stato tenace nel trovare spazio nella fuga giusta (foto Bettini), nata dopo più di 60 km di gara percorsi ad altissima velocità e dopo che numerosi tentativi di attacco erano stati neutralizzati.
Undici corridori, poi diventati quattordici (Rui Costa era in un drappello di contrattaccanti, ma non è riuscito ad agganciarsi alla fuga) hanno portato fino alle pendici dell'ascesa finale la loro azione, per poi sfidarsi per la conquista del successo di tappa.
Uno scatenato Zakarin ha sgretolato la resistenza di Pantano e Majka, mentre un regolarissimo Durasek ha colto un ottimo quarto posto, a 1'32" dal vincitore e a soli 6" dal podio.
Il gruppo principale ha imboccato la salita verso il traguardo con 10' di ritardo dai battistrada e la battaglia tra gli uomini di classifica si è aperta a 2 km dal traguardo: alcuni uomini di grosso callibro si sono staccati dal vagone della maglia gialla, mentre Meintjes è stato costante e completato la sua prova al 15° posto, a 8'18" dal vincitore e a soli 19" da Froome, autore di un allungo nel finale.
Meintjes è risalito al 10° posto, a 6'07" da Froome: alle 16:32 di giovedì 21 luglio scatterà dalla pedana di partenza della 18^tappa, una cronoscalata di 17 km da Sallanches a Megève.

Blue-fuchsia-green colors shined thanks to two pure climbers as Kristijan Durasek and Louis Meintjes in the 17th stage of Tour de France, Berne-Finhaut Emosson (184,5 km with three climbs of 3rd category, followed in the final 30 km by the 1st category ascent of 1st category of Col de la Forclaz and by the hors categorie arrival).
The Croatian rider was one member of the breakaway (photo Bettini) which led the race and which gave the opportunity to 14 riders to fight for the stage victory.
The breakaway began not earlier than the 60th km of the race and not before many attack attempts: in the begining, it was formed by 11 riders, who were later joined by other 3 athletes (Rui Costa tried a counter attack, but unfortunately he could not bridge the gap to the front group).
The breakaway approached the final climb with 10' on the peloton, so the attackers could battle for the victory: Zakarin demonstrared to be the stronger climber, preceding Pantano and Majka, however Durasek too realized an impressive performance, obtaining the 4th place at 1'32" to the winner ant atonly 6" to the podium.
The peloton reached the final ascent still formed by many riders and the battle among the top contenders of the general classification began at -2 km: some top riders were dropped, Meintjes was great in following the yellow jersey and he succeeded in losing only 19" in the very final meters.
Meintjes was 15th at 8'18" to the winner.
Thanks to today performance, the South African climber is 10th in the general classification at 6'07" from Froom and on Thursday at 4:32 pm he'll start the mountain time trial from Sallanche to Megève.
