La grande folla di tifosi che ha atteso a Limoges l'arrivo della 4^frazione del Tour de France (partenza da Saumur, lunghezza 237,5 km) non ha potuto applaudire la prestazione di Davide Cimolai.
L'atleta della LAMPRE-MERIDA ambiva a trovare le giuste sensazioni in un finale di tappa potenzialmente adatto alle sue caratteristiche, con un rettilineo finale in lieve e costante ascesa.
Presentatosi negli ultimi 500 metri quasi a ridosso delle prime file del gruppo, già lanciato ad alta velocità, Cimolai (in foto Bettini, scortato dall'affidabile Bono) non ha trovato la brillantezza necessaria per aumentare il ritmo di pedalata e lottare per il risultato al quale ambiva.
Il velocista blu-fucsia-verde ha tagliato il traguardo in 39^posizione, vittoria per Kittel al fotofinish su Coquard.
"Non posso essere contento per la tappa di oggi, ambivo a un buon risultato e aspettavo di trovare sensazioni migliori dopo che nell'arrivo di Angers avevo faticato - ha spiegato Cimolai - La corsa è andata bene fino al finale, dove ho alzato il ritmo negli ultimi chilometri per portarmi nella prima parte del gruppo.
Quando però sul rettilineo finale ha iniziato a farsi sentire la pendenza, le gambe non mi hanno assecondato nella necessità di cambiare ritmo e trovare maggiore potenza".
La frazione è trascorsa senza sussulti per gli altri corridori della LAMPRE-MERIDA: una fuga di 4 atleti (Irizar, Schillinger, Gougeard e Naesen) ha condotto la gara, dopo poco più di 25 km, al termine di una fase iniziale di corsa che ha visto, al contrario delle tappe precedenti, una accesa lotta in testa al gruppo, non vari tentativi di attacco.
La fuga è stata neutralizzata a 7 km dal traguardo.
In classifica generale, Rui Costa è 17° a 18" da Sagan, Meintjes occupa la 30^posizione a 29".

The crowd of fans waiting for the arrival in Limoges of the 4th stage of the Tour de France (start from Saumur, distance 237,5 km) could not applaud the performance of Davide Cimolai (in photo Bettini, together with Bono).
LAMPRE-MERIDA's sprinter aimed to achieve a good result in a final straight in light ascent which could have been suitable for his qualities.
At 500 meters to the arrival, Cimolai was behind the front part of the group and he could not raise his speed in the sprint when the the road started to go lightly upward.
The blue-fuchsia-green rider crossed the finish line as 39th, when the sprint was won by Kittel on Coquard.
"I'm not satisfied, my goal was to obtain a position in the top 10 and I failed - Cimolai commented - After I had no perfect feeling in yesterday arrival in Angers, I hoped that the finish straight in Limoges could helped me to be more competitive, however I could not change the pace when it was necessary to be faster in the final 500 meters".
Nothing to take note of for the other LAMPRE-MERIDA's cyclist, in a quite simple stage which was led from the km 25 to 7 km to the arrival by a breakaway of 4 riders (Irizar, Schillinger, Gougeard and Naesen) who went clear from the peloton after that in the early kilometers there had been a series of attack attempts.
In the overall classification, Rui Costa is 17th at 18" to Sagan, Meintjes is 30th at 29".
