Il primo corridore della LAMPRE-MERIDA a centrare una fuga nel Tour de France 2016 viene dal giappone ed è un atleta molto amato in Francia: è Yukiya Arashiro, protagonista della 6^tappa della Grande Boucle (Arpajon sur Cère-Montauban, 190,5 km), condotta assieme all'altro attaccante di giornata, Barta, per quasi 165 km.
La generosa prestazione è valsa al corridore asiatico il premio di "ciclista più combattivo": premiazioni sul palco all'arrivo (foto Bettini) e il dorsale rosso nella 7^frazione.
Arashiro ha promosso la fuga con uno scatto secco piazzato dopo 3 km dalla partenza ed è stato seguito solamente da Barta.
Il duo ha subito guadagnato un buon margine sul gruppo, tendando anche di tracheggiare per qualche chilometro per vedere se qualche altro corridore avesse l'intenzione di donare altre forze alla fuga, ma dal gruppo non è fuoriuscito alcun atleta.
Il giapponese blu-fucsia-verde e Barta hanno così proseguito la loro azione, arrivando a toccare un vantaggio massimo di 5'30", limite che è andato inesorabilmente ad assottigliarsi visto il lavoro delle squadre dei velocisti in testa al plotone.
Il ricongiungimento con i due fuggitivi è avvenuto a 22 km dal traguardo: sono entrati in azione i treni dei velocisti e Davide Cimolai si è districato egregiamente nella lotta per le posizioni migliori, disputando uno sprint di rincorsa che lo ha portato vicino alla top 10 (12° posto, vittoria di Cavendish su Kittel).
Spazio ad Arashiro, eletto corridore più combattivo: "Fa piacere vedere riconosciuto l'impegno e la grinta che ho profuso per andare in fuga.
Eravamo solo due atleti, sarebbe stato meglio che qualche altro corridore si fosse accodato ma, anche quando abbiamo provato rallentare un poco il nostro passo per favorire qualche contrattacco, nessuno si è mosso.
Sapevo che sarebbe stato quasi impossibile che la fuga avesse possibilità di arrivare fino al traguardo, ma ho pensato solo a pedalare e a gestire le forze.
Sono contento di aver ricevuto un premio per me, che voglio condividere con tutta la squadra, gli sponsor e i tanti tifosi che mi seguono in Francia, Europa e Asia.
Questa stagione non era iniziata bene, mi sono rotto il femore a febbraio ma con determinazione sono guarito e ho ripreso ad allenarmi con ancora maggior entusiasmo, rientrando alle corse a maggio nel Giro del Giappone, dove ho vinto la tappa di Izu.
Oggi aggiungo un'altra bella giornata alla mia carriera: avevo già vinto questo premio 4 anni fa, è emozionante tornare a ricevere questo riconoscimento".
Nessun cambiamento nella classifica generale, Meintjes è 19° a 5'28" da Van Avermaet.

The first rider from LAMPRE-MERIDA to join a breakaway in the Tour de France 2016 is from Japan and he's really appreciated in France: he's Yukiya Arashiro, who was protagonist in the 6th stage of the Grande Boucle (Arpajon sur Cère-Montauban, 190,5 km) having led the race, together with Barta, for almost 165 km.
This performance was awarded with the prize of "most combative rider" for Arashiro (photo Bettini), who'll race the 7th stage wearing the red number.
Arashiro attacked with determination after 3 km in the race and he was joined by Barta; the duo, after having built up a good advantage on the bunch, preferred to slow the pace in order to check if some other cyclists had the will to counter-attack and join the breakaway, however no-one went clear from the peloton, so LAMPRE-MERIDA's Asian cyclist and Barta continue their action without other supports.
After the duo had reached a maximum advantage of 5'30", the sprinters' teams began to led the chase which was completed at 22 km to go.
The stage had a massive sprint as epilogue and Cimolai could recover positions and crossing the finish line close to the top 10: he was 12th, the victory was obtained by Cavendish on Kittel.
"I'm pleased that I received the award as most combative rider, it's a prize for the determination I had to promote the breakaway - Arashiro commented - We were only two athletes in the front of the race, it would have been better to have more riders in the breakaway, that's why we decided to see if someone would have joined us, but no one came from behind.
I was aware that it was almost impossible to reach the arrival, however I focused my attention on the road and on my performance.
I'm happy to have the opportunity to share this happy moment with my team mates, the sponsors and all the fans who support me in France, in Europe and in Asia.
This season started in a bad way for me, in February I broke my leg, however I did not give up and I focus my energies on the recovery and on the training and I succeesed in coming back at the races in May, at the Tour of Japan, where I won the Izu stage.
Tosay I add another beautiful moment: I had already won this prize four years ago, however it's always something good to live these kind of moments".
No changes in the overall classification, Meintjes is 19th at 5'28" to Van Avermaet.
