Nuova dimostrazione di classe da parte di Louis Meintjes.
Il corridore sudafricano della LAMPRE-MERIDA si è espresso ad alti livelli nella seconda prova contro il tempo del Tour de France 2016, disputata tra Sallanches e Megève, sulla distanza di 17 km, dei quali ben 12 di costante ascesa con pendenze massime superiori al 10%. Lo scollinamento della salita era posto a 2 km dal traguardo, separato da una breve e ripida discesa.
Lo scalatore blu-fucsia-verde ha fatto registrare il 9° tempo, di 1'08" superiore a quello del vincitore Froome.
Per comprendere la portata della prestazione di Meintjes, va sottolineato come sia stato il migliore tra i corridori Under 25 e che, nell'ultimo parziale, il ciclista della LAMPRE-MERIDA si è espresso con il secondo miglior riscontro cronometrico, superiore di 11" a quello di Froome.
In classifica generale, Meintjes scavalca Daniel Martin, insediandosi al 9° posto a 7'15" da Froome.
Meintjes (foto Bettini) ha così commentato la sua prova: "E' stata una bella cronometro, sono contento per come sono riuscito a esprimermi e per essere riuscito a trasferire sulla strada tutta la preparazione che era stata fatta per questa tappa.
Abbiamo infatti costruito questa crono tassello per tassello con tutto lo staff, a partire dallo studio del percorso condotto dal gruppo di ingegneri di Merida, guidato da Juergen Falke. Con il Dottor Pollastri, medico di squadra e head of performance del team, e con i ds Mauduit e Scirea abbiamo pianificato la gestione dello sforzo, decidendo di partire cautamente per poi esprimersi al massimo nel tratto finale del percorso.
Anche l'allestimento della bici ha avuto la sua importanza: ho pedalato su una Merida Reacto con manubrio da cronometro e ruote da 40mm.
Spero di dare seguito a questa bella giornata anche nelle prossime impegnative tappe".

Louis Meintjes offered a new demonstration of his class, realizing a very good performance in the second time trial of the Tour de France 2016, which was raced with start in Sallanches and arrival in Megève on the distance of 17 km, with 12 of ascent with max degree above the 10%. The summit of the climb was at 2 km to the arrival, form which it was separated by a short and fast descent.
The blue-fuchsia-green climber registered the 9th best time, 1'08" higher than the winning one of Froome.
In order to understand better the significance of this performance, it's important to point out that Meintjes was the best under 25 rider and that his time in the last sector of the course was the second best, at 11" to the one of Froome.
In the general classification, Meintjes shift one position and he's 9th, at 7'15" to Froome.
This is the comment by the South African rider (photo Bettini): "I'm happy, especialyy because the result was good and because I succeeded in realizing what I had planned with the team staff in view of this stage.
In fact, we prepared the stage in each details, starting from the study of the course which was made by the staff on engineers from Merida, led by Juergen Falke.
Together with Dr Pollastri, team's doctor and head of performance, and the sports directors Mauduit and Scirea, I programmed the management of the effort during the time trial, deciding to start without pushing too much and finishing at the maximum power.
The bike set too was very important: I pedalled on a Merida Reacto with time trial handlebar and with 40 mm wheels.
Today was a good day for me, I hope there will be other ones from here to the end of the Tour".
