Adam Yates finished off a solid week of racing at the Vuelta Burgos, taking 2nd place on the uphill run to the line at Lagunas de Neila and cementing his 3rd place podium behind stage and overall winner Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma).
The British climber formed a strong trio alongside Roglic and Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora hansgrohe) who went clear after Jay Vine put in a huge turn at -4km to go to blow the field away.
UAE Team Emirates placed three riders in the final top-10 with George Bennett 6th at 3’39’’ and Jay Vine 8th at 4’33’’, with UAE Team Emirates comfortably taking home the teams classification and Adam Yates winning the mountain points table.
Yates: “Overall I’m happy with the result. Obviously the stage win would have been nice but we know how good Roglic is in those situations at the finish. I gave my best and as a team we rode well, I think we showed that by winning the team prize. It was super hot all week so it made the racing that bit harder too. We’ll focus now on the last goals of the season.”
