VUELTA ANDALUCIA: ON THE PODIUM THREE STAGES IN A ROW

The 177km stage three of the Ruta del Sol was a challenging day with two first, and two-second category climbs with a final km steep climb finish.
The race had a strong breakaway with our Damiano Caruso part of it for over 160km but was caught by the peloton with 3km remaining.
It was the final km where the action happened as Jack Haig (Michelton-Scott) attacked taking Fugslang and our Dylan Teuns with him. Teuns was in a great position to take the win, however, he and Haig misjudged the last corner opening it up for Fuglsang to take his second win on the race. Despite Teuns misfortune, Pello Bilbao finished second.
Race leader Jakob Fulgsang gained a few seconds over rivals in the general classification. The Danish rider now has a 14″ lead over Mikel Landa and 30″ lead over Pello Bilbao while Teuns is fourth with a 31 “gap.
Teuns felt frustrated after the race “At the last corner the guys who have to point the way forgot to do their job, and that’s why I missed the right turn. I was also confused by one motorbike because he turned immediately and the road straight was completely open.”
“We tried all day long – explained Pello Bilbao – and also today we have been really near the stage win. I am happy with my second place, which confirms our good condition. There are still two stages to go, and we have to keep going full gas. “
“From the start – commented Sports Director Gorazd Stangelj – we had decided to make the race as difficult as possible, but in the end, the other teams worked to cancel our attempts. After half of the race, since we had spent a lot of energy, we gave Caruso the green light. We deserved to win today, but in the end, we were unlucky “.
