Diego Ulissi put himself within reaching distance of overall glory today in Kobarid, with third place on stage 4 of the Tour of Slovenia.
The Italian veteran crossed the line behind the Jayco-Alula duo of Jesus Peña and Filippo Zanna, and now sits in second place in the general classification, just 1 second shy of new race leader Peña.
There was a moments silence observed at the beginning of the stage in memory of Gino Mader who sadly passed away on Friday.
The race concludes tomorrow with an undulating stage from Vrhnika to Novo mesto(142.6km).
Ulissi : “We got very sad news yesterday and we all had Gino on our minds during the stage. The last climb today was quite tough and I had to work hard to rejoin the front. I paced my effort on the climb and steadily made my way back. I’m pleased with the result and my shape even after my crash yesterday. Tomorrow on the last stage we’ll give a push for the victory.”
