CORONAVIRUS: CONTAINMENT CONTINUES

After a second screening test, the UAE Ministry of Health has decided to continue the containment of the Cofidis team until March 14. In their hotel in Abu Dhabi, the riders and staff are organising themselves to stay as relax as possible.
In Abu Dhabi, the confinement continues for the Cofidis delegation. While no positive cases have been detected among the riders and staff of the northern team, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has announced that medical surveillance is required after several cases of coronavirus were discovered on the floor where the team is staying.

According to the authorities, the quarantine is expected to last until 14 March. The UCI assured Team Cofidis, via a letter, that "the conditions of the teams' stay are the best possible" and that the athletes "have the necessary equipment to continue training with a view to their return to competition".

The Cofidis team would like to thank the UCI, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, the French Ministry of Sport and RCS Sport - organiser of the UAE Tour - for their understanding and the attention paid to the situation of its riders and staff who have been confined since last Thursday.

Thierry VITTU
Group Human Resources Director Cofidis Participation
"Of course the date is quite distant, but it’s good to know the situation and see the perspective! Indeed, what was difficult to live with until now was the absence of a deadline and the permanent expectation of a solution. We are going to remain in solidarity with each other, aware that we are living a collective adventure that will teach us as much about ourselves as about others. We remain optimistic and positive! »

Roberto DAMIANI,
Sports Director
"We are doing everything we can to live this situation as best we can. The members of RCS (the organisers of the Tour of the United Arab Emirates) have mobilised to provide us with home trainers. The riders started the exercises right away. Our daily routine now resembles a stage race with a home trainer in the morning and a physio and rest session in the afternoon. We're going to do everything we can to make sure that the time we have to stay confined is the least restrictive for the whole team".
