30-Jul-2022: Among the many competitions the Wolfpack will race next month, there will also be the Vuelta a Burgos, where Remco Evenepoel triumphed in 2020, becoming both the youngest winner in the history of the race and the first Belgian rider to put his name on the roll of honour.
Just like two years ago, the Vuelta a Burgos will once again feature the climbs of Picon Blanco (7.8km, 9%) and Lagunas de Neila (11.5km, 6.2%), but this time only the latter will host a summit finish, on the last stage of the event whose first days should be very puncheur-friendly, as indicated by the finishes of Alto del Castillo and Clunia.
Leader of the team victory classification this year with 37 victories so far, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl will come to the start with a strong seven-man team consisting of Davide Ballerini, James Knox, Fausto Masnada – a stage winner this season at the Tour of Oman – Pieter Serry, Jannik Steimle, Ilan Van Wilder, and stagiaire Simone Raccani, third overall just a few weeks ago in the Giro della Valle d’Aosta.
“Vuelta a Burgos is a race where we had success in the past, and we hope to be again among the protagonists. We are going there with a strong squad, comprising several riders who can go for a good result, one of whom is Davide Ballerini, who had an impressive outing in Wallonie. We are also looking forward to seeing our young stagiaire Simone in action, this will be a good test for him”, said Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl sports director Davide Bramati.
