28-Jul-2022: Having impressed in the U23 ranks these past two seasons, Simone Raccani will get a taste of what it’s like to race together with the pros over the next couple of weeks as a trainee for Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl. Hailing from Carrè, a small town located in the province of Vicenza, Simone started cycling at the age of eight and hit the ground running from his first season as a junior, racking up wins and several other solid results before making a successful transition to the U23.
There, riding for Zalf Euromobil Désirée Fior, he took a spectacular victory in the prestigious Gran Premio di Capodarco, last August, when after initially being part of a strong group that went clear from the peloton on the penultimate lap, he attacked the last time up the “Muro” di Capodarco, a climb boasting 15% gradients, and left everyone else behind 300 meters from the line. Most recently, Simone finished third overall at what’s arguably the toughest stage race on the U23 scene, the Giro della Valle d’Aosta, thanks to a solid and consistent display in the mountains.
“I am very happy to ride as a stagiaire for this team, one of the best and most successful in the world. My dream is to become a GC rider, and this a great opportunity for me to see how it is to be among the pros on a daily basis and learn many important things that I am sure will only help me to grow as a rider”, said the 21-year-old, who will debut for Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl next week, at the five-day Vuelta a Burgos.
