PHIL BAUHAUS WINS THE FINAL STAGE OF TIRRENO-ADRIATICO AS MIKEL LANDA ROUNDS OFF THE GC PODIUM |
It was a perfect ending at the Tirreno-Adriatico for Bahrain Victorious. The team finished the 7-day Italian stage race with Phil Bauhaus sprinting to victory in San Benedetto del Tronto, confirming 3rd place on the General Classification podium with Mikel Landa and winning the best team ranking. |
The race’s final day was a 159km course starting and finishing in San Benedetto del Tronto.
After a first mixed part, the course was entirely flat in the last 80km, with a 14.5km flat circuit repeated five times which was made for a sprint showdown. |
The day’s breakaway formed initially by three riders was caught at 15km to go on the last lap, with the sprinters team working on setting up the finale for their fast men. Phil couldn’t count on a lead-out train on the last km with the teammates also focussed on protecting the leader Mikel Landa. But the German sprinter was impressive doing everything perfectly and taking his first success of the season, outsprinting Giacomo Nizzolo (Israel-Premier Tech) and Kaden Groves (BikeExchange-Jayco). |

Phil Bauhaus: “It was a fantastic week for the team. Today as a team, we did everything possible for us. The boys did an amazing job in supporting me in the finale. Then on the last km, I was mainly on my own, and I knew I had to do timing perfectly, then I followed other wheels. I’m super happy with this victory. It is a big one, actually.” |
Mikel Landa backs up last year’s final result at Tirreno-Adriatico as he finished in 3rd place GC, behind the winner Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma). After the penultimate stage, the Spaniard moved onto the GC podium with an 11″ advantage to Richie Porte. The small gap was easily preserved on this final stage for the sprinters. |
Mikel Landa: “I’m pleased to be on the podium again after last season. I needed this podium for my confidence. I’m very delighted not only for me but also for my teammates because we did a super good week. We have been on the podium also as the best team, and we took a win with Phil so super good”. |

Bahrain Victorious also capped off a great team performance throughout the 7 stages, crowned the best team overall. |
Gorazd Stangelj, Team Bahrain Victorious Sports Director: “It’s more than expected. When you try hard, and the guys are ready, and mentally focused for the results. Today, Phil showed his skills and that he’s improving year by year. I’m very happy that he achieved this result today because now also for him it’s going to be easier to go towards the next races. He was incredible. He did everything alone on the last km. The timing was perfect. Everything was done like in the book. I’m delighted to guide in the races these guys”. |
