PHIL BAUHAUS SPRINTS TO CONSECUTIVE 2ND PLACE AT STAGE 2 OF DEUTSCHLAND TOUR

The second  180.6km stage of the Deutschland Tour from Sangerhausen to Ilmenau ended in a bunch sprint on another day of rainy conditions, where Bauhaus sprinted to second again.

The peloton controlled the gap to the breakaway, keeping it at around 2’30”. Team Bahrain Victorious riders were the most active at the front of the bunch, with Hermann Pernsteiner and Domen Novak setting the tempo. Just before the final lap of 7 kilometres, Dylan Teuns tried to jump, but the conditions were not ideal and moved back to help Marco Haller position Phil Bauhaus for the sprint lead out.

In the end, in a bunch sprint Alexander Kristoff (Team UAE) had the strongest sprint and managed to outsprint Phil Bauhaus at the last meters. Yesterdays’ winner Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) was third and kept his GC jersey.
Phil Bauhaus: “Today, the teamwork was amazing. It was a hard final, and the last 20 -30 kilometres were quite hilly, and then the local lap at the finish was not so easy, especially it was pretty cold and raining the whole day, so it took me a lot of energy. I was behind Kristoff, and I came from behind with more speed with 200 meters to go. I decided to go because I was afraid that some guys would have come if I hesitate too much. Then I was running out of energy in the last 50 meters, and Kristoff passed me, unfortunately. I tried my best, and it was the maximum we could’ve got out today. Tomorrow’s another day and another chance for our super strong team, and I hope we can take at least one win the next days remaining”.
