Vuelta a Burgos #1: Nizzolo takes victory
Giacomo Nizzolo claimed an exciting victory on the opening stage of the Vuelta a Burgos to take not only the stage but also the overall race lead.
The Italian claimed his third victory of the season with an impressive finish on the steep, twisting climb to the finish in Burgos; throwing his bike to just edge Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural). Michael Eduard Grosu (Delko Marseille Provence) was third.
The win sees him also claim the race leader's jersey, while also leading the points and mountains classifications, heading into tomorrow's stage over 155km from Gumiel de Izan to Lerma.
Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier finished in 14th on the same time together with Jacques Janse van Rensburg and Alexander Konychev. Louis Meintjes lost some time after falling in a crash but finished safely.

"Today was the first stage with an uphill finish and I wasn't that confident in the beginning as last week wasn't so easy for me, the feelings weren't that good. But in the middle of the stage I felt okay so I asked the team to pull in front to bring back the breakaway. I approached the final climb in second position and it was a tough final, a hard one but in the end it worked out so I'm really happy for me and the team.
"Today is an important day for cycling, I want to give this victory to Bjorg Lambrecht."
