IVAN GARCIA CORTINA SPRINTS TO SECOND PLACE ON THE FINAL STAGE OF THE TOUR POITOU-CHARENTES. |
Poitiers (France), Sunday, August 30th – Tour Poitou-Charentes en Nouvelle Aquitaine ended today with stage 5 (Thénezay-Poitiers, 164,6 km), featuring a course that could favour attackers, but a bunch sprint was highly expected. |
As the remainder of the day breakaway that included very strong riders were caught with 2kms to go, thanks also to Team Bahrain McLaren riders job, Ivan Cortina tried again to go for the win. The Spanish rider gave everything, but he could only sprint to second place, behind Arnaud Demare who scored a hat-trick at this race, taking also the overall. |

Speaking after the finish, Ivan Cortina commented: “The guys did an amazing job to bring the breakaway back. In the finale, I tried to do my best, but in the last corner, I was not in the front positions. I accelerate to overcome riders and I arrive at the finish at high speed, but I was again second. I couldn’t win, but today I’m happy with my performance”. |

Team Bahrain McLaren Sports Director Tristan Hoffman added: “Arnaud Demare proved to be unbeatable also today. We’re satisfied with this second place and really satisfied with the work of the team. Unfortunately, we were down to 5 riders, but they gave everything until the end. We can be happy with this result”. |
