DYLAN TEUNS 2ND ON STAGE 3 OF DEUTSCHLAND TOUR |
Stage3 of the Deutschland Tour from Ilmenau to Erlangen (191 km), started uphill in Ilmenau, and went directly into the Thuringian Frauenwald forests with the highest point of this year’s tour at 780 meters. It was another day of heavy showers, along with low temperatures for August that the riders had to deal with. Team Bahrain Victorious riders continuously kept the peloton’s front position maintaining the breakaway gap to 3 minutes. Domen Novak was successfully hitting the tempo throughout the stage until the decisive 20 kilometers when some other teams sparked the race for the final, preventing the expected bunch sprint.

Nils Politt (Bora-Hansgrohe) won the third stage of the Deutschland Tour after a few kilometers battle with Dylan Teuns, before the final, lighter but long climb at the point of fewer than 10 kilometers from the finish. |
Nils Politt took the overall lead by gaining 10 bonus seconds and taking the leader’s jersey. Before the ultimate Stage 4 from Erlangen to Nürnberg (160 km), Phil Bauhaus holds third place in GC, 10 seconds behind Politt, and Dylan Teuns is fifth, 17 seconds behind the leader.

Dylan Teuns shared his thoughts immediately after Stage 3; “For sure I am a bit disappointed now. I think that together with Politt, I was the strongest in front, but I stayed a little bit behind him at 2 kilometers to go. He surprised me, and then on the flat, I couldn’t close the gap, and he always had a small advantage in front of me, but then in the final kilometer, he took double what he had before, and I was not able to close that gap. Tomorrow’s final stage will be a bit more hilly, so it’s more interesting, and hopefully, we can be even better.”
