BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS TO TIRRENO-ADRIATICO
|
The next race on the menu of the Italian campaign is the Tirreno-Adriatico. The 7-day stage race (March 7-13) is also called the “Race of the Two Seas”, as the course runs across regions bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. Not surprisingly, the trophy for the GC winner is the famous trident of Neptune, the deity of the sea.
The prize is considered as one of the most beautiful in cycling, and more than one of our riders competing in the upcoming edition are looking forward to grabbing it.
Pello Bilbao, Mikel Landa and Damiano Caruso will be our strong trio to chase the final podium and stage victories. They will have the support of powerful riders like Jasha Sütterlin, Heinrich Haussler and Jan Tratnik. Phil Bauhaus rounds up the line-up. The German sprinter will have several occasions to shine, as stages 2,3 and 7 feature flat finishes.
The Tirreno-Adriatico is traditional warming up to the first Monument of the season, the Milan-San Remo, and the other Classics. The race has a challenging route, including hilly courses, steep climbs and long stages. |
In particular, the GC contenders will focus on not losing time on the tricky stage 4 that could suit a breakaway and ends with a punchy finish. But the most brutal days are still to come on stages 5 and 6: the stage of the ‘walls’ and the queen stage the day after with the double ascent of the Monte Carpegna climb. |
Tirreno-Adriatico will start tomorrow with a short and flat time-trial (13.9km) in Lido di Camaiore.

Alberto Volpi, Team Bahrain Victorious Sports Director: “We are tacking on this race with a strong squad to be competitive both for the GC ranking and stages victories. The shape of our riders is good, and we are confident we can get some important satisfactions. The route is challenging, and I believe the weather can play a significant role. Wind, chilly conditions, and rain will be opponents alongside a handful of the strongest riders in the world. I’d say it will be an interesting and spectacular week of racing”. |
