10 MILLESIMI DI SECONDO DIVIDONO PARRINELLO DAL COLPACCIO ALLA VOLTA A PORTUGAL
Nella seconda tappa GM Europa Ovini in evidenza anche grazie ai 215 km di fuga di Antonio Di Sante e al nono posto di Matteo Rotondi

Una tappa vissuta da grandi protagonisti. La Reguengos de Monsaraz – Castelo Branco, seconda frazione della Volta a Portugal, lunga 220 km, ha visto il GM Europa Ovini sotto i riflettori in tutte le fasi principali di corsa. In una giornata caldissima il primo a mettersi in evidenza è stato l’abruzzese Antonio Di Sante: il corridore è riuscito a centrare la fuga iniziale, insieme ad altri 9 attaccanti. L’azione è stata lunghissima, in quanto è stata ripresa solo a 5 km dal traguardo, di conseguenza Di Sante ha portato a casa ben 215 km di fuga, con numerosi piazzamenti sia ai traguardi volanti che ai vari gran premi della montagna.

Nel finale la formazione #blackandgreen ha lavorato compatta per Antonino Parrinello, il quale è stato autore di una bella performance anche nella prima tappa, dove si è visto sempre in testa con i migliori. Nell’arrivo allo sprint Parrinello non ha sbagliato nulla, e si è dovuto inchinare a Samuel Caldeira (FC Porto) solo al fotofinish, in quanto, dalle immagini televisive, non si riusciva a capire chi avesse vinto. Solo 10 millesimi di secondo hanno diviso il siciliano da una vittoria che sarebbe stata bellissima oltre che meritata.
Nei primi 10 al traguardo, per il GM Europa Ovini, troviamo anche il giovane Matteo Rotondi, che ha chiuso in nona posizione. Il team ottiene anche il secondo posto nella classifica a squadre.
“La squadra è stata a dir poco eccezionale – afferma Antonino Parrinello – e voglio fare i complimenti a Davide Pacchiardo, che nel finale ha svolto un grande lavoro, in quanto ci ha pilotati da solo in testa fino all’ultimo chilometro. Voglio anche fare i complimenti a Matteo Rotondi, perché senza nemmeno parlarci mi ha protetto la ruota e si è giocato le sue chance in volata. Sono più dispiaciuto per loro due, che hanno lavorato alla perfezione, piuttosto che per me, perché si sarebbero meritati una bellissima vittoria come ricompensa. Perdere così fa male: non ho perso nettamente, ma sono mancati solo 10 millesimi di secondo. Troveremo la forza per riprovarci perché abbiamo dimostrato che possiamo competere con tutte le migliori squadre presenti a questa gara”.
“Sono venuto qui in Portogallo per cercare di vincere una tappa – afferma l’abruzzese Antonio Di Sante dopo il traguardo – durante la riunione tecnica di questa mattina ho detto che avrei voluto provarci perchè mi sembrava la tappa giusta, almeno sulla carta. Fino a 5 km dall’arrivo è andato tutto bene, poi è mancato qualcosa. Sono soddisfatto ma anche un po’ rammaricato per me e per la squadra perché pensavo ci potesse essere una bella vittoria”.

In the second stage of the Volta a Portugal GM Europa Ovini is also highlighted by the 215 km of breakaway of Antonio Di Sante and the ninth place of Matteo Rotondi
A stage lived by great protagonists. The Reguengos de Monsaraz – Castelo Branco, the second fraction of Volta in Portugal, 220 km long, saw the GM Europe Ovini under the spotlight at all major stages of the race. On a hot day the first to highlight was the abruzzo rider Antonio Di Sante: the rider managed to center the initial flight along with other 9 riders. The action was very long, as it was only 5 km from the finish, so Di Sante brought home 215 km of escape, with numerous placings both on flying targets and the various mountain awards.
In the final, training #blackandgreen worked compact for Antonino Parrinello, who was the author of a good performance in the first stage, where he was always in the lead with the best. When Parrinello came to the sprint, he did not do anything wrong, and he had to bow to Samuel Caldeira (FC Porto) at the end of the photo finishing, since, from the television images, he could not figure out who had won. Only 10,000ths of a second divided the Sicilian from a victory that would be beautiful as well as deserved.
In the top 10 at the finish, for GM Europa Ovini, we find the young Matteo Rotondi, who closed in ninth position. The team also gets second place in the team rankings.
“The team was exceptionally unusual – says Antonino Parrinello – and I want to congratulate with Davide Pacchiardo, who has done a great job in the final, as he has driven us alone in the lead until the last kilometer. I also want to congratulate Matteo Rotondi, because without even talking to me, he protected my wheel and played his chance in flying. I’m more sorry for the two of them, who worked for perfection rather than for me, because they would deserve a great victory as a reward. Losing it hurts: I did not miss it, but I missed only 10,000ths of a second. We will find the strength to retry because we have shown that we can compete with all the best teams present in this race. ”
“I came here to Portugal to try to win a stage,” says Abruzzo rider Antonio Di Sante after the finish line. “During the technical meeting this morning I said I wanted to try it because it seemed to me the right stop, at least on paper. Up to 5 miles from the arrival, everything went well, then something was missing. I’m satisfied but also a little regretted for me and for the team because I thought there could be a nice win. ”
