5. September 2016 — MELANIE LEVEAU — MTB TEAM - The 200th XCO World Cup was to be the setting where Julien Absalon would demonstrate his ability to withstand the highs and lows of being a professional sportsman. He ended his season in the way he knows best; by winning his 33rd World Cup and the overall classification, for the 7th time. “The last two weeks have been very tough for me, but the team helped me to get over the disappointment, and to focus again on the World Cup finals” he explained. After a battle with last year’s World Championship medalists on the same course (Schurter and Cink), Absalon took a solo win and showed everyone that he is still at the top of his game.
Great 6th place for Martin Fanger
Martin Fanger had his best World Cup result in a long time. In contention for a top ten result from the moment the start gun went off, the Swiss rider rode a spectacular last lap to cross the finish line in 6th place.
Going into the final World Cup, the BMC MTB Racing Team only had a 24 point lead over the French, BH Suntour Team. By placing four riders in the top 20 (Flückiger in 11th place and Indergand in 20th), the team showed that it is definitely the best on the circuit by winning its fourth Team classification in four years.
