Bigla second in the team time trial and leads youth and points classifications after opening stage of Giro Rosa
The 30th edition of the Giro Rosa commenced with an 18km-long team time trial. Starting from Cassano Spinola, the riders climbed up to Castellania, the birthplace of Italian cycling legend Fausto Coppi, whose 100th birthday was commemorated with this particular stage. The route was anything but flat and the many undulating and hilly passages made it difficult for several teams to find a steady rhythm today. Bigla took to the route under hot and difficult weather conditions, and set the best time at that point.
Although several strong teams were still to follow, ultimately only Canyon//SRAM was able to better this time, leaving Bigla to finish in an outstanding second place on the opening stage. In addition to finishing on the podium, the team also took the lead in the young rider classification with Mikayla Harvey, as well as the points classification with Leah Thomas. The team will therefore head into Stage 2 with the white and ciclamino jerseys, and in a good starting position in the overall standings.
