LA CRONO DI VARAZZE E' DI EVELYN STEVENS


Arriva il "triplete" per l'americana in questo Giro Rosa: con il tempo di 36'21'' Evelyn Stevens ha colto il miglior tempo nella crono individuale da Albisola Superiore a Varazze staccando di quattro secondi Anna Van der Breggen ed Elisa Longo Borghini. Un risultato che fa capire lo stato di forma della fuoriclasse statunitense, che è in pieno gioco per un grande risultato puntando l'obiettivo anche verso Rio: dopo Montenars ed Alassio è la plurivincitrice di tappa del Giro 2016.

E' da sottolineare anche la grande prestazione di Elisa Longo Borghini, che dopo i problemi avuti ieri nella tappa di Madonna della Guardia, ha ottenuto una grandissima prestazione a crono, disciplina in cui detiene il titolo italiano. Anna Van der Breggen, vincitrice del Giro 2015, guadagna una posizione nella generale a scapito di Mara Abbott: ora l'olandese della Rabo-Liv è terza a 1'53'', con Stevens seconda a 34'' dalla Maglia Rosa Megan Guarnier. 

La tappa di domani, da Rescaldina a Legnano, si corre sulle strade della Coppa Bernocchi e può dare una chance anche alle velociste rimaste in corsa.

EVELYN STEVENS DOES THE TRIPLE WINNING THE TIME TRIAL

"Triplete" for the American in this Giro Rosa: with the time of 36'21'' Evelyn Stevens took the best time in the Individual Time Trial from Albisola Superiore to Varazze beating Anna Van der Breggen and Elisa Longo Borghini for 4''. The result is an answer about the condition of the American Champion, who is going to take an eye to Rio: Nobody has won more stages than Stevens in this Giro. 

Elisa Longo Borghini took an exceptional performance in the Time Trial (she is the Italian National Champion in this discipline) after the problems on the climb of Madonna della Guardia yesterday.
Anna Van der Breggen, winner of the Giro 2015, has earned one position in the General Classification: she is third now (Mara Abbott is now fourth) with 1'53'' delay, Stevens is second with 34'' from Megan Guarnier in Pink Jersey.

Tomorrow's Stage, from Rescaldina to Legnano, is run on the roads of the Coppa Bernocchi and it can give a chance to the sprinters remained in the race.

Elisa Longo Borghini Third In Giro Rosa Stage Seven Time Trial

Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Elisa Longo Borghini came within a few seconds of her first ever Giro d’Italia Femminile stage victory as she took third in the stage seven time trial between Albisola and Varazze. The Italian Time Champion, wearing the green jersey of leader of the Mountains Classification, completed the hilly 21.9km course in a time of 36 minutes, 25.06 seconds, which was less than three and a half seconds slower than stage winner Evelyn Stevens (Boels-Dolmans).

“I didn't expect to go so well today,” Longo Borghini said. “Actually when I arrived I didn't know anything and I realised I had the first time only because my mother told me!”

The fantastic performance, which saw Longo Borghini finish almost a minute quicker than the provisional leader at the time, came just a day after the Italian suffered badly on the hilly sixth stage. Having dropped out of general classification contention, however, the 24-year-old bounced back with a performance that eclipsed most of the rest of the peloton.

“After yesterday I didn't want to push too hard,” she explained. “I started and I was feeling ok, so I kept going.

“Yesterday I had a heat stress and I suffered a lot. I had the worst day of my cycling life!”

Having eclipsed the then fastest time set by Stevens’ teammate Karol-Ann Canuel by almost a minute, Longo Borghini had to wait to see if the later starters could push her out of the hotseat. Several riders finished, unable to beat the Italian Champion, until 2015 Giro Champion Anna van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv) crossed the line 72 hundredths of a second quicker.

Soon afterwards, Stevens finished almost three seconds faster than van der Breggen, pushing Longo Borghini down to third place on the stage. Despite coming so close to a first stage victory in her home tour, however, Longo Borghini is far from disappointed with her third podium finish of the 2016 race.

“Oh no!”: she laughed. “I was already glad I was on my bike today!”

Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Mara Abbott finished just outside the top ten, in twelfth place, one minute and 49 seconds behind compatriot Stevens. Unfortunately, this meant that the American two-time Giro winner slipped off the overall podium to fourth place.

ALBISOLA SUPERIORE (SV), 08/07/2016

BUONGIORNO DA ALBISOLA SUPERIORE

E' arrivato il giorno della decisiva cronometro individuale. La Albisola Superiore - Varazze, lunga 21.9 km prevede un tracciato lungo ma su un terreno molto accidentato, ricco di curve e saliscendi nell'entroterra savonese. 

Le due località liguri sono entrambe sulla costa della Riviera di Ponente, ma a differenza di quanto si possa immaginare, il percorso di gara è del tutto all'interno e non sull'Aurelia. Si transita infatti dal paesino di Stella, dove, nella frazione di San Giovanni il 25 settembre 1896 nacque l'amatissimo ex Presidente della Repubblica Italiana Sandro Pertini. 

La gara transita in vetta allo strappo di Gameragna, scende a Brasi e risale a San Martino. Gli ultimi chilometri sono in leggera discesa fino al traguardo in Viale Nazioni Unite a Varazze. La crono partirà alle 12:15 con il via di Francesca Balducci (S.C. Michela Fanini): le atlete si lanceranno dalla rampa di partenza ogni minuto, ad eccezione delle ultime dieci, distanziate ogni 2 minuti. Le favorite? Evelyn Stevens, dopo l'eccezionale prestazione di ieri ad Alassio, è una delle prime specialiste della crono, come l'olandese Anna Van der Breggen, che fece una spettacolare performance un anno fa a Nebbiuno e che si è vista in grande forma sulla salita finale di Madonna della Guardia ieri.

Alla fine di questa tappa la classifica generale subirà un importante modifica, aspettando il weekend di chiusura in cui verrà assegnata definitivamente la Maglia Rosa 2016.

GOOD MORNING FROM ALBISOLA SUPERIORE

The day of the decisive Individual Time Trial has come. The 21.9 km long stage from Albisola Superiore to Varazze has a not short route, full of curves and latch roads in the hinterland of Savona. 

The two Ligurian villages are both on the Ponente Riviera, but the route is not on the Via Aurelia: the race transits through Stella, where the former and loved ex President of the Italian Republic Sandro Pertini was born on the 25th September 1896. After the climb of Gameragna, there is a short downhill to Brasi then back up to San Martino. The last kilometers descend until the finish line of Viale delle Nazioni Unite in Varazze. This Individual Time Trial begins at 12:15 with Francesca Balducci (S.C. Michela Fanini): the athletes will start every minute, except the last 10, who will be launched every two minutes. The favorites? Evelyn Stevens, after the exceptional victory of yesterday in Alassio, is one of the best specialists of time trials, same as Anna Van der Breggen, who did a great performance last year in Nebbiuno and was in great shape on the final climb of Madonna della Guardia yesterday. 

At the end of this stage the general classification will go through an important change. waiting the final weekend where the Maglia Rosa 2016 will be definitely assigned.
