Grande squadra, gambe pronte e intensa determinazione per Sacha Modolo nel finale della 12^frazione del Giro d'Italia, la Noale-Bibione di 182 km piatti come un tavolo da biliardo sul quale, però, il velocista della LAMPRE-MERIDA non ha trovato il colpo vincente, cogliendo un comunque gratificante 4° posto.
Come da previsioni, la tappa si è conclusa con una volata di gruppo dopo che i corridori avevano percorso due giri del circuito finale di Bibione: ottimo il lavoro di Mohoric e Ferrari (foto Bettini) per scortare Modolo nelle curve cittadine e per tenere le posizioni di testa, a fianco del treno della Lotto-Soudal di Greipel, favorito numero uno per lo sprint.
Proprio il tedesco è uscito a velocità esorbitante dall'ultima curva, posta a 300 metri dal traguardo, riuscendo a distanziare tutti gli altri contendenti per il successo in volata, Modolo compreso.
Il solo Ewan è riuscito a seguire Greipel, non trovando però la velocità per superarlo, mentre Modolo ha tagliato il traguardo in 4^ posizione, risultato che va ad aggiungersi ai due terzi posti ottenuti nella 2^ e nella 7^tappa.
E' il ds Maini, sull'ammiraglia della LAMPRE-MERIDA assieme al collega Scirea, a commentare la prestazione della squadra: "Il maltempo ed eventuali attacchi di un numero corposo di corridori erano gli unici due fattori che avrebbero potuto insidiare un arrivo in volata.
La fuga è nata con solo due membri, quindi è stato semplice per le squadre dei velocisti tenere la situazione sotto controllo, nonostante l'abbondante pioggia, cessata poi nel circuito finale.
Ci siamo mossi bene per rimanere nelle posizioni di testa, fattore fondamentale in un circuito con molte curve.
Modolo ha affrontato bene l'ultima svolta ai 300 metri, ma Greipel e Ewan sono stati ancora più bravi, scavando tra loro e gli altri atleti impegnati nella volata un margine irrecuperabile.
La vittoria avrebbe avuto ovviamente un sapore speciale, però il quarto posto è una conferma del fatto che Modolo è sempre presente nella lotta tra ruote veloci e che la squadra riesce a dare il proprio contributo ogni volta che è necessario".
La LAMPRE-MERIDA è salita sul podio delle premiazioni di Bibione per ricevere il riconoscimento come "Winning Team (classifica a tempi) e "Super Team" (classifica a punti) della tappa di ieri.

Super team, good legs and fierce determination for Sacha Modolo in the sprint of the 12th stage, Noale-Bibione of 182 totally flat kilometers.
LAMPRE-MERIDA's sprinter was 4th on the finish line, preceded by the winner Greipel, by Ewan (2nd) and by Nizzolo (3rd): the stage ended with a bunch sprint which was prepared in a perfect way by the blue-fuchsia-green team, thanks to Mohoric and Ferrari (photo Bettini) who led Modolo in the front position, head to head with the Lotto-Soudal's train which was working for Greipel.
The German cyclist entered in the final straight at 300 mt to the arrival pedaling at a very high speed, obtaining a decisive advantage on all the other opponents, except for Ewan, who could follow him, obtaining the second position.
After the last bend, Modolo had a little gap from Greipel and Ewan and he could not bridged it, obtaining the 4th place: in the summary of the results obtaining by LAMPRE-MERIDA's sprinter in the Giro, this result joins the two third places which were obtained in the 2nd and in the 7th place.
Sports director Maini commented the performance of the blue-fuchsia-green team: "Two factors could have jeopardize the sprint: the bad weather conditions and a breakaway of a large number of members.
The main breakaway of the strage counted only on two riders, so it was easy for the sprinters team to control the situation, despite the rain which felt on the race until the approach to the final circuit in Bibione.
We paid the highest attention on defending the front positions in the circuit, because the series of turns required to avoid to be in the middle of the bunch.
Modolo approached in a good way the last bend at 300 meters to the arrival, however Greipel and Ewan were even more skilful.
The victory would have obviously something special, however the fourth place is an additional good result which confirms that Modolo is always present in the sprints and that the team is always ready to support him".
At the end of the race, LAMPRE-MERIDA was awarded as Winning Team (time classification) and Super Team (points classification) for yesterday stage.
