This was the day of many challenges, the day when the body was more than ever subjected to various physical difficulties. The Giro is often considered to be one of the toughest Grand Tours and this stage, in the heart of the Apennines, proved it once again. The reason? The climb of the Blockhaus throughout the 191 km of the stage.
Martin, 28 seconds behind the pink jersey
After a great performance yesterday, Guillaume Martin had to hold on and resist in order to keep his place of honor in the general classification. And the leader of Cofidis team did not fail. The challenge was tough, the leaders had to defend themselves once again, but Guillaume resisted, holding on to the leaders group. He crossed the line in 11th position, 1 min 08 sec behind the winner of the day, Australian Jai Hindley.
In the general classification, Guillaume Martin keeps his position in the top 10. Ranked 6th, he is only 28 seconds behind the pink jersey, the Spaniard Juan Pedro Lopez. Martin is proving that he can be counted on with two weeks to go until the finish on May 29 in Verona. Before going back to Pescara on Tuesday, the riders will finally have a rest day. This will be really important as they have already covered 1,470 km since the start in Budapest, ten days ago.
