In the last few kilometers, everyone worked hard to follow the plan laid out in the briefing. The climbers, Nicolas Edet, Victor Lafay and Rémy Rochas did a brilliant job to keep Elia in the leading group. Then, it was Natnael Berhane who positioned himself at the front of the peloton with about 10 km to go.
Simone Consonni then worked hard to bring Elia Viviani to the front of the peloton before the final climb. In the last kilometer, Consonni redoubled his efforts for several hundred meters to try to bring the peloton closer to Taco Van Der Hoorn. The Dutchman won the race alone, but Elia Viviani took part in the massive sprint and finished in the 4th place, ahead of Davide Cimolai and Peter Sagan.
Tomorrow, the stage will be steep again. After a flat start to the day, the road will rise between Placenza and Sestola. The stage contains three difficulties, including a 2nd category climb in the final part of the stage. This will be an opportunity for Rémy Rochas, Victor Lafay and Nicolas Edet to show their skills.
