172 km di fuga, quasi 1000 km di fuga totali al Giro per conquistare una vittoria proprio sulla linea del traguardo della tappa 18 del Giro d’Italia. Una vittoria ottenuta con grinta, determinazione, ma anche tanta lucidità nei metri finali nonostante la stanchezza. “Una vittoria per tutta la squadra, il DS e i compagni, una vittoria che abbiamo voluto fortemente e ottenuto tutti insieme lottando ogni giorno uniti per arrivare a questo risultato.”

Damiano Cima è il vincitore della diciottesima tappa del Giro d’Italia n.102.

Una vittoria ottenuta con estrema lucidità seppur dopo 172km di fuga odierni e dopo quasi 1000 km di fuga totali al Giro d’Italia. Una vittoria ottenuta con una volata nella volata, con il gruppo che avanzava riassorbendo proprio pochi metri prima della linea i due compagni di fuga dell’atleta #OrangeBlue, ma non Damiano Cima, che oggi ha scritto una pagina di storia importante per lui e per tutta la sua squadra.

L’abbraccio con Marco Canola dopo il traguardo, le lacrime di Juan Josè Lobato, la fatica accumulata da tutti i compagni nelle 18 tappe di questo Giro d’Italia culminano nel miglior risultato della storia di questo team, una vittoria in una tappa World Tour, una vittoria nella corsa più importante della stagione: il Giro d’Italia.

LE PAROLE DEL VINCITORE.

Damiano Cima commenta così la sua vittoria, la quarta da professionista, la prima in Italia nella corsa più importante: “In fuga ho capito veramente che saremmo arrivati solo a 1km dall’arrivo è stato un finale davvero intenso dove ho cercato di tenere la calma e pensare agli ultimi 350 metri. Ringrazio i miei compagni di fuga perchè abbiamo collaborato fino alla fine per poi giocarci le nostre chance. Sono davvero felice di essere riuscito a regalare una vittoria a tutte le persone che hanno creduto in me. Al team NIPPO Vini Fantini Faizanè, al DS Mario Manzoni che mi ha fortemente voluto e creduto in me, a tutti i compagni con i quali abbiamo lottato in questi giorni e con i quali avevamo puntato questa tappa. Il mio pensiero va anche alla mia famiglia che ha fatto sacrifici per farmi correre, alla mia fidanzata Veronica e due persone che non sono più qui ossia mio nonno grande appassionato di ciclismo e Pierino Farimbella.”

LE FUGHE, LA VITTORIA.

Giornata nervosa, attesi gli sprinter all’ultima grande volata e la fuga stenta a partire con attacchi e contro attacchi. Al km 50 parte il tentativo vincente con Damiano Cima, Mirco Maestri e Nico Denz. La fuga prende il largo ma pare essere tenuta sotto controllo dal gruppo che solo nei 20 km finali accelera notevolmente il ritmo, ma davanti i tre atleti sono bravi e intelligenti continuando a collaborare perfettamente fino ai 3km dal traguardo quando iniziano alcuni scatti e tentativi. Damiano Cima nonostante i quasi 1.000 km di fuga (circa 930) raccolti in 4 azioni corse davanti al gruppo. L’atleta bresciano classe 1993 e lanciato nel professionismo dal team NIPPO Vini Fantini Faizanè, è l’atleta che ha collezionato più km di fuga in questo Giro d’Italia, coronate e culminate oggi nel sogno più bello per ogni corridore: la vittoria nella Corsa Rosa.

172 km of breakaway, almost 1000 km rode in front of the group in the Giro to win a stage in Giro d'Italia. A victory achieved with grit, determination, but also a lot of lucidity in the final meters despite the fatigue. I thank also the other riders in the breakaway we worked together until the end to play our chances. I am really happy to have succeeded in giving a victory to all the people who believed in me. To the NIPPO Vini Fantini Faizanè team, to the DS Mario Manzoni who strongly wanted me and believed in me, to all the teammates with whom we fought in these days and with whom we had staked this stage. My thoughts also go to my family who made sacrifices to make me run, to my girlfriend Veronica and two people who are no longer here, namely my grandfather, a great cycling fan and Pierino Farimbella.”

THE BREAKWAYS AND THE VICTORY.
