The 2015 cycling season is slowly coming to an end, but team Topsport Vlaanderen – Pro-Duo - Ridley is not thinking of phasing out yet. September brings some important challenges for the team and a lot of riders are working towards the season’s final races as the world championships on the road. The stage competitions make the best preparation, so the team participated in 2 tours this month.

We decided to take a very young selection to the 6 day competition UCI 2.1, Route de France. Many of the world’s best teams were amongst the competitors, but the team wanted to invest in the younger riders. Some of them participating in their first multi-day competition. The results were good: 1 x 5th place, 1x10th and 1x 11th place in the stage result schedule. Unfortunately Nel De Crits had to give up, defeated by disease and Saartje Vandenbroucke was taken out of race to protect her fitness after a heavy period of school exams. Fien Delbaere was very strong and showed an amazing amount of character as first year elite. Jessy Druyts, only 21 years, and Kaat Hannes could confirm and showed great strength on the steep climbing stages. Future talent is stepping forward!

Only 6 days after Route de France, the team started in Trophée D’Or. The team consisted of Kelly Druyts, Kelly Van den Steen, Jessy Druyts, Nel De Crits, Steffy Van den Haute and Ann-Sophie Duyck. The aims high since Ann-Sophie Duyck became 2nd in last year’s edition. The team pulled out a great collective effort and after the win of Ann-Sophie Duyck in the initial individual time trial, the team managed to keep the leading jersey for 2 more stages. Eventually the Australian Rachel Neylan won the overall tour with 12 seconds lead on the French Edwige Pitel and 35 seconds her countrywoman Carlee Tayler. Ann-Sophie Duyck finished on the 6th place at 1'23".

Next to participating in these 2 multiple day challenges in France, the team also started in some other important races as Erondegemse Pijl (1.1 race), Sparkassen Giro Bochum (World Cup) and the European Championships for juniors and U23 in Estland.

The team consisted of 7 riders at the podium of the Erondegemse pijl. One of them Ann-Sophie Duyck, winner of last year’s race and competitor for the win. The team ride a strong race with a constant presence in the front of the peloton, but proved to not be strong anough in the last phase of the race. Eventually the Dutch Thalita de Jongh could take the flowers home, she was stronger on the uphill finish section. She wins the race with 5 seconds lead on the French Elise Delzenne.

After a 7th place of Kelly Druyts last year, the team hoped to gather some UCI-point one again in the World Cup race Bochum. However the team was ravaged by badluck: Kelly Druyts had to give up in the 3th tour already with stomach ache. Kaat Hannes became 29th in the sprint of the bunch.

5 of our riders were selected by the Belgian team to ride the European championships time trial and road cycling. Lenny Druyts and Eva Maria Palm for the juniors. Kelly Van den Steen, Demmy Druyts, Lotte Kopecky at U23.

Lotte Kopecky became 11the in the individual time trial U23. The 19-year old Kopecky covered the circuit of 18,4 km at an average of 42,59 km/h. Eva Maria Palm became 11th and Lenny Druyts 28th at the junior series.

The Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma could crown herself European Champion on the road in the U23 series. Lotte Kopecky became first Belgian girl at the 22nd place. In the womens juniors series the Italian Nadia Quagliotto won gold. Lenny Druyts became 7th and Eva-Maria Palm 21st.

Likewise on regional level, team could score nice results with wins for Jessy Druyts in Nederhasselt and Lenny Druyts in Emptinne. Lenny also won a 2-day competitionfor international juniors in Zottegem-Erwetegem. Lenny took all the jerseys: climbing jersey, points jersey and the jersey of the overall leader.

With great pleasure the team can present that they will participate in the last stage of the mens Vuelta, which is organised for women as well. Idem La Course, La Vuelta will be broadcasted all over the world on Sunday afternoon 13th September.
