Third place for Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig at Trofeo Alfredo Binda

Bigla took to the 21st edition of Trofeo Alfredo Binda, the third race in the Women’s WorldTour calendar, in Italy today. Starting in Taino and finishing in Cittiglio, the race featured an undulating course of more than 130km in length, as well as a finishing circuit in Cittiglio.

The Bigla riders were extremely active in the race, with Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig launching an attack on an early climb, and both Mikayla Harvey and Leah Thomas working hard to individually bring back various solo attacks over the following kilometres. With 30km remaining,
Cecilie and Leah had fought their way into a reduced group, and 10km later, Leah launched an attack from this group but was caught a few kilometres later. On the last climb, Cecilie fought her way into the front group on the road, and in the end the race came down to a reduced sprint from this group in Cittiglio. After a strong performance Cecilie finished in third place.

Team Manager Thomas Campana said after the race, “We wanted to achieve a podium place today, but it wasn’t necessarily easy. It was somewhat chaotic out there. We expected a final sprint from 30 to 40 riders, and we tried to prevent the race coming down to such a mass sprint. We knew that Cecilie is in good form and so our young and talented team put the favourites under pressure during the race. They executed our plan and we achieved our aim with a podium place.”
