The Boels Rental Hills Classic takes place on Friday 27 May. The race is over a distance of 131,4 kilometres and features a total of 15 climbs. A look at the past winners list shows what a tough course it is. Similarly to the men’s Amstel Gold Race, the peloton will face two ascents of the Cauberg towards the end of the race. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio is a past winner after out-sprinting a select group in 2013. “After a good spring campaign, the riders got to take a break,” Team Manager, Thomas Campana said. “The season is very long and we only have nine riders so we have to manage the preparation for the top events. Having to peak for the Olympic games in August and World Championships in October is something we have to manage carefully. We’ll be racing teams coming from the Tour of California so we will see what we get. The girls are in good shape, this race suits Ashleigh and we will try to come up with a smart tactic. The race is the start of our preparation towards Auesteiner-Radsporttage and Aviva Womens Tour,” Campana said. Boels Rental Hills Classic (27 May) Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio USA Cycling Professional Road Race and Time Trial National Championships (27-28 May) Carmen Small will be competing in the U.S. national championships on Friday and Saturday, taking part in both the individual time trial and the road race. The time trial is held on Friday and will be raced over a course of 33 kilometres. The road race follows a day later and is over 140 kilometres on a nine-lap circuit. “The TT course is constantly rolling and never flat so it will be an interesting race. It's 33km so that will play a roll in how it is raced as well,” Small said. “I'm really excited to race, I have a great race set up and good help so hopefully everything can come together. I will go out there and try my hardest.” About the road race, the former U.S. time trial champion says, “The course is basically the same as the Winston Salem course from last year’s road race, maybe a few small changes. To be honest at this point I have only been focusing on the time trial. After Friday is over I will take a look more closely at the course.” |
