In the Scheldeprijs, only one name remains on the list of honours for now. Lorena Wiebes confirmed her status as top favourite by winning the bunch sprint for the third year in a row. "This was a goal, yes. I want to win as many sprints as possible. After the cobbled section, the team immediately took the lead with two solid turns by Marlen Reusser and Mischa Bredewold. The lead-out train went perfectly, so I just had to finish it."

"The Scheldeprijs is special after all. It's like the value meter in sprints. So it's nice to win a third time in a row. I started quite early and did feel Charlotte Kool coming up, so I switched up a gear. Whether you win by an inch or a bike length doesn't matter. The important thing is that I put the Scheldeprijs to my name again."

In de Scheldeprijs staat voorlopig nog maar één naam op de erelijst. Lorena wiebes heeft haar status als topfavoriete bevestigd door voor het derde jaar op rij de massasprint te winnen. “Dit was een doel, ja. Ik wil zo veel mogelijk sprints winnen. Na de kasseistrook nam het team meteen de lead met twee stevige beurten van Marlen Reusser en Mischa Bredewold. De lead-out trein verliep perfect, ik moest het dus gewoon afmaken.”

“De Scheldeprijs is toch wel speciaal. Het is als het ware de waardemeter in sprinten. Dus het is mooi om een derde keer op rij te winnen. Ik begon vrij vroeg en voelde Charlotte Kool wel opkomen, dus ik schakelde een tandje bij. Of je wint met een centimeter of een fietslengte, maakt niet uit. Het belangrijkste is dat ik de Scheldeprijs opnieuw op mijn naam heb gezet.”

Goed voor reeds de elfde overwinning van het wegseizoen voor Team SD Worx. “Zo’n perfecte seizoenstart durf je je vooraf niet eens inbeelden. Ik voel dat ik een stap heb gezet bij Team SD Worx. Ik heb meer volume gekregen en ben een iets completere renster geworden.  Daardoor heb ik misschien wat pure snelheid verloren in de sprint, maar het is nog steeds voldoende om sprints te winnen”, besluit Lorena Wiebes.
