Lizzie Armitstead and Danny Stam renew contracts with Boels-Dolmans

BUNDE – The Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team can count on the services of British cyclist Lizzie Armitstead and Dutch team manager Danny Stam until the end of 2018, thereby ensuring the continuation of this successful professional team. This duo was, after all, at the heart of the evolution of the Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team, which over the last few years has grown from a team of talented cyclists into the most successful international top team of this spring cycling season.

Armitstead joined the team together with Stam in 2013, and has since won the coveted world title on the road (2015) and victories in the world cup (2014 and 2015), achieving the greatest sports successes to date for Boels-Dolmans. This spring she has already won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the Strade Bianche, the Trofeo Binda and the Tour of Flanders.

Based on the existing group, team manager Danny Stam has been able to continuously professionalise the ladies’ cycling team. As almost every major race this spring was won by his cyclists, the manager from North-Holland could say with great pride that the development process had worked out well. “Our cyclists know they are capable of dominating races if they ride as a team and if each and every one always puts the team first. Everybody wants to start a season like this, but we actually do it. This isn't the result of one winter of hard work, but a process of years.

I am pleased we are able to continue this progress for the coming seasons and am very curious to find out what we might yet achieve. As partners of our team, Boels Rental and Dolmans Landscaping Group have proven to be incredibly reliable and cooperative. This is something many other teams look at with admiration and perhaps a little jealousy. What's more, these sponsors stand firmly behind a long-term vision, which has helped us already in achieving many successes. We're confident there are many more sporting achievements to come.”

Armitstead has herself already made a great cycling dream a reality this spring by winning the Tour of Flanders. The Olympic Games in Rio are the next objective of the leader in the UCI Women's World Tour. The British cyclist is delighted to know well before Rio that she will continue to ride in her trusted Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team for the coming two seasons. “Over the past few years the team has gone through a development which has brought us collectively to a high level of cycling. We always approach each race to win as a team and often only need a look or a sign to know what is about to happen. I have achieved my greatest sports successes in this environment and look forward to continuing my career here. We have a solid and professional organisation standing behind us, which enables us to maintain our current high level of performance.”
