Julie Leth wins Swissever GP Cham-Hagendorn, Elizabeth Banks second

Bigla returned to Switzerland this Sunday for the 39th edition of the Swissever GP Cham-Hagendorn. With start and finish in Hagendorn, the one-day race took the riders on 12 laps of each 9.3 km around the small town.  The 111.6km long course was flattish, narrow and technical and featured a climb that had played a major role in the race’s outcome in previous years. On dry roads and fairly sunny conditions the peloton set out on mid-morning to take on this challenging course.

After the race, Julie said: “It was a fast race with many attacks. We always tried to be up there at the front, and counter the important attacks. My teammates rode fantastically the whole day to make sure that we had riders in important moves. It was very hectic and in the end I managed to bridge into a front group with some other riders and then we went for the sprint. I wanted to be sure that if it came down to a sprint, that I would get a good result, because my teammates worked so hard today. I’m also so happy that Lizzy Banks finished second. It was really a team effort today.”

Team Manager Thomas Campana reported: “We just arrived from Spain to take part in this race, and we actually had conservative expectations. However, our tactics went according to plan and the riders were keen to get a good result. They rode intelligently on the course, and we controlled the other teams and their sprinters. This is a remarkable achievement, as there were several strong sprinters in attendance at the race. We ended up taking both first and second, and that is fantastic particularly because we are only a few kilometres away from the team service course. This is a great win for the team.”
