Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Elisa Longo Borghini is looking forward to leading the black and orange team in Saturday’s second edition of the Strade Bianche. The Italian race, which takes in the White Roads - as well as some of the most spectacular scenery - of Italy’s Tuscany region, will be an historic one in a number of ways; most notably that it will be the first ever event in the first ever Women’s World Tour.

“I'm excited and delighted to race Strade Bianche,” Longo Borghini said. “It's the first Women’s WorldTour race on the calendar and I'm curious to take part in that too!”

Longo Borghini finished third in last year’s inaugural edition of the Strade Bianche, when she was outsprinted by now World Champion Lizzie Armitstead, behind the solo victory of Armitstead’s teammate Megan Guarnier. The finish line on the city of Siena’s iconic Piazza del Campo is one of the most spectacular in cycling, and extra special for one of the top Italian riders in the sport.

“For me it's a special race, it's the most southern classic of the season,” said Longo Borghini. “The course is hard and technical, there are gorgeous landscapes and a great public. I think it's one of my favourite - or maybe even my absolute favourite - races of the season.”

Longo Borghini will be joined in the Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling team by compatriot, former two-time road World Champion Giorgia Bronzini, along with Japanese Champion Mayuko Hagiwara and Olympic Champion Dani King. The roster will be completed by Swedish Champion Emma Johansson and Netherlands rider Amy Pieters, fresh from their outstanding ride in Le Samyn, where they took second and third places respectively.
