The 2019 Tour of the Alps starts on next Monday from Kufstein, in the Austrian Tyrol. Edition 43 will run over 711 km in five stages, featuring 10 categorized climbs and takes in almost 14,000 vertical Alps.
The Tour of Alps also marks Vincenzo Nibali’s return to races after the Milano-Sanremo, closed in 8th place: "I am happy to go back to compete in this stage race, which is a competition I’m very fond of and where I won two editions in 2008 and 2013”.
“I have worked well over the last few weeks and this race will help me to understand where I am with my preparation and to better refine my condition in view of the Liege-Bastogne-Liege and after the Giro d'Italia ”.
Nibali's coach Paolo Slongo underlines: "almost all the riders who will race the Tour of Alps - Vincenzo and his brother Antonio, Garosio, Agnoli and Pernsteiner - arrive from the Teide training camp where they have almost rode for 1400km in 11 days with nearly 30,000 meters of altitude difference . A good preparation with which I hope to reach good results in this race ”.
