A Croatian rider ruled in Croatia: his name is Kristijan Durasek (photo Bettini) and he's the winner of the first summit arrival of the Tour of Croatia.
The climber from UAE Team Emirates obtained the 6th success in career winning the 2nd stage of the home race, 123 km from Trogir to Biokovo, preceding at the end of the final climb (13,3 km) Roson, Nibali, Hirt and Grosschartner.
The key moment at -2 km, when Durasek and other 4 riders followed an attack from Nibali: the Croatian climber beated them in a climb sprint in the final meters.
In the top 10, Niemiec (7th) and Polanc (8th) too, both at 21" to the winner.
UAE Team Emirates' rider is the new leader of the general classification.
After Modolo's success in the opening stage, the team of the president Matar celebrate the second victory in a row in the Tour of Croatia.
"I'm happy and excited: I know this climb, it's a satisfaction winning here and it was great to fight with top riders such as Nibali - Durasek explained - In the finale, I had extra motivations because I wanted to reward my team mates for their great support: I perceived that they were confident in me and I succeeded in exploiting in the best way my good form. I had good feelings, I thank the training and performance staff of the team for this result.
Tomorrow, it will be great to wear the leader jersey at the start, it would be even better to keep the jersey for many days".
Sports director Maini commented: "The team tatally actualized the plan for the stage which was imagined with my colleague Vicino. Congrats to Kristijan and congrats to all the team's riders, today everybody was perfect in his performance and in every moment of the stage".

Un croato domina in Croazia: è Kristijan Durasek (foto Bettini), vincitore del primo arrivo in salita del Tour of Croatia.
Lo scalatore dell'UAE Team Emirates ha conquistato il 6° successo in carriera imponendosi nella 2^frazione della corsa di casa, la Trogir-Biokovo di 123 km, precedendo al termine della salita conclusiva di 13,3 km Roson, Nibali, Hirt e Grosschartner.
Il momento cruciale della corsa è coinciso con il passaggio ai -2 km dall'arrivo, quando un allungo di Nibali è stato seguito da Durasek e da altri 4 atleti, tutti regolati poi dallo scalatore croato in vista del traguardo.
Nella top 10 anche Niemiec (7°) e Polanc (8°), a 21" dal vincitore.
Il corridore dell'UAE Team Emirates è anche il nuovo capoclassifica.
La formazione del presidente Matar può quindi festeggiare la seconda vittoria consecutiva nel Tour of Croatia, dopo l'affermazione di Modolo nella tappa inaugurale.
"Sono felice ed emozionato: conosco questa salita, è bello vincere qui ed è stato bello battagliare con corridori forti come Nibali - ha commentato Durasek - Nel finale, ho avuto una motivazione in più data dal voler ripagare con il massimo risultato il grande supporto che ho ricevuto dai miei compagni di squadra: ho percepito sin dal via la loro completa fiducia, ho corso sereno e ho messo a frutto la mia buona condizione di forma, raggiunta anche grazie all'attenzione e alla professionalità dello staff della squadra addetto alla preparazione.
Sarà bello essere domani alla partenza con la maglia di leader, sarebbe ancor più gratificante riuscire a conservarla a lungo".
Il direttore sportivo Maini ha sottolineato: "Il piano gara che era stato delineato assieme al mio collega Vicino è stato seguito alla perfezione da tutta la squadra e la vittoria di Durasek è un gradito premio per tutti i nostri atleti, davvero encomiabili per il supporto che hanno dato a Kristijan in ogni momento della gara".
