Classics complete, Grand Tours approach

Another Classics season has come to an end and we can be proud of our consistency this year.

Whilst we didn't have the big celebration, such at Mat Hayman's Paris-Roubaix win last year, we now line up in every Classic - whether cobbled, Ardennes or sprint - with at least one genuine contender and some exciting prospects for the future.

With the closing of the Classic season comes the start of the stage and Grand Tour season. Keep an eye out for our performances at the Tour of Romandie starting tomorrow, and for our Giro d'Italia team announcement in your inboxes early next week.

The Classics season came to a close yesterday, but for ORICA-SCOTT’s Dutch star Annemiek van Vleuten it marks the beginning of an new era and an exciting future the women’s peloton.

For the first time in history, Liege-Bastogne-Liege held a race for women and it concluded a comprehensive Spring campaign that included combined men’s and women’s at Liege, Flèche WallonneAmstel Gold RaceTour of FlandersGent Wevelgem and Dwars Door Vlaanderen.

Speaking after her gutsy ride in the inaugural women’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege where she finished in a respectable fifth place, Van Vleuten said the inclusion of these prestigious spring races has really been a positive progression for the sport.

“I think it is a big step up for women’s cycling to have these new WorldTour races,” she explained. “It is important for us to have the same WorldTour races as the guys, especially in the spring and I think Amstel Gold Race is the best example of how the races should be.”

ORICA-SCOTT’s youngest rider Rob Power, one of the team’s most promising up and coming talents, had an unconventional start to his professional career after his debut season with the team was plagued with injury.

His huge potential and promising results led to his signing with the team and having displayed great determination and perseverance to overcome a setback last season, Power has been able able to turn things around racing overseas with ORICA-SCOTT so far in 2017.

“I was really excited to join the team in 2016, it was my first year turning pro but then I spent most of the year sidelined with injury,” Power explained. “I was trying hard everyday to come back and it was very frustrating not being able to race with the team over in Europe.”
