Almost...

Payerne, 28th April, 2017 – What a stage, what a performance, what a team… Oh if stage was just 1 meter longer…

Anyway, we knew it will be a sprinters stage, although there were some climbs, but nothing to serious for peloton. Our team didn’t want to repeat yesterday when they left the breakaway win, so we controlled the race the whole race, all our guys were majority of the time on the front of the peloton pushing. Breakaway had no chance despite having 7 riders. 188 km of cold but sunny day made peloton little happier then yesterday’s snow. Payerne was a starting and finishing city and route passed it few more times circling close to Lac de Neuchatel. The city was buzzing with fans and they deserve the show.

In last 500m Sonny was positioned well and had momentum, but 200m to go he found himself stuck between fence and another rider, so he had to find his way to go on the inner side. He did managed that and went out on all horsepower, making significant ground only to come second behind Team Sky’s Elia Viviani. Yes, we think 1 meter more would make a difference, but that is cycling, and we should only be proud of Sonny and the team.

“Today the team was fantastic, really fantastic, but it’s a shame for the sprint, few meters were missing… but I do want to thank the whole team for such a great work.”Sonny couldn’t hide the disappointment.

“I think the whole team did a really good job” – said Sports Director Harald Morscher, “unfortunately we didn’t win the stage, while the other teams were profiting of our team’s work today, so for us it is a little bit disappointing because the team did work so hard, and we are sorry for Sonny, as he’s one of the best sprinters.” Asked about team performance and great form Herald said: “ yes we are strong, tomorrow is a mountain stage, so it will be different then today, but the team is ready for the summer, form and spirit are there.”

In GC, everything stayed as yesterday, Ion is 5th, 12 seconds behind the leader.
