And the series of top performances by Rui Costa goes on in the queen stage of the Tour of Oman too.

The Portuguesre talented cyclist was 3rd in the summit arrival of Jebel Ahkdar, behind Hermans and Aru, giving to the Emirati team the 7th podium in this early part of the season which had been very good.

The key moment of the stage was the final ascent on the "Green Mountain", 5,7 km at 10,5%, however already in the early kilometers the stage had been interesting, due to wind which caused echelons.
Rui Costa received a perfect support by his team mates and he succeeded in pedaling in the front group and he also avoided to be involved in a crash which occurred when the peloton crossed a creek.

The pack gathered together and neutralized the five riders breakaeway in the early meters of the final ascent.
Rui Costa approached the climb in the head positions of the group, which was reduced to 16 riders on the ascent. Team UAE's captain climbed at a regular pace and he was 3rd on the arrival, at 11" to the winner Hermans and at 8" to Aru (2nd).

Rui Costa detained the 2nd place in the general classification, at 22" to the leader Hermans and with 13" on Aru (3rd).

"I'm very satisfied, it was not easy to be so competitive fighting against pure climbers as Aru, Kudus, Bardet, Grmay - Rui Costa (in photo Anne Wu, recovering from the effort made on the final ascent) explained - I preferred to cover the ascent pedaling at a regular pace and it paid off. Hermans was impressive, my congrats.

I was once again very happy for the help which my team mates gave me: it's telling that we avoided both to the involved in the echelons and in the crash, these are very important signs and I'm confident that we have good chances to be ready tomorrow, in the final stage, to face the tricks of the wind".
