Ancora una prestazione di altissimo livello da parte di Louis Meintjes (foto Bettini) al Criterium del Delfinato.
Nella tappa conclusiva della corsa World Tour francese (Le Pont-Superdevoluy, 151 km con arrivo in salita), il corridore della LAMPRE-MERIDA si è espresso al pari di tutti gli altri uomini di primo piano della corsa, mettendo in mostra le sue grandi dote di scalatore sui 6 Gpm di giornata.
Particolarmente bravo il sudafricano a gestirsi nella penultima ascesa, il Col du Noyer (1^categoria, scollinamento ai -10,5 km), quando un attacco di Contador ha selezionato il gruppo della maglia giallo-blu di leader della corsa: lo spagnolo è stato seguito subito da Froome, Bardet e Porte, mentre Meintjes ha trovato il ritmo giusto per scollinare, in compagnia di Yates e Rosa, con pochi secondi di ritardo e poi riagganciarsi nella discesa verso la salita finale.
L'ascesa verso il traguardo è stata iniziata da Meintjes in un drappello allargato a 15 atleti, preceduto da Cummings, unico reduce di una fuga nata nella prima parte di gara e della quale faceva parte, ancora una volta, uno scatenato Grmay.
Cummings ha vinto la tappa 3'58" su Daniel Martin: l'irlandese ha regolato in volata in drappello nel quale pedalava Meintjes, 8° sul traguardo (+4'01").
Nella classifica generale, il corridore della LAMPRE-MERIDA ha mantenuto il 9° posto, con un divario da Froome limitato a 1'30". Terzo posto nella classifica dei giovani, a 39" da Alaphilippe.
Grmay ha ottenuto il 2° posto nella graduatoria degli scalatori, a soli 5 punti da Teklehaimanot.
"Sono molto contento di essere stato competitivo in tutte le ultime tre tappe di montagna, arrivando al traguardo sempre con i migliori scalatori - ha sottolineato Meintjes - I risultati ottenuti al Delfinato mi danno riscontri interessanti sul lavoro di preparazione svolto.
Ringrazio la squadra per il supporto che mi è stato dato, qui in Francia eravamo un gruppo tanto giovane quanto affiatato.
Rimango concentrato e continuo a lavorare per tornare in Francia a luglio, con l'intenzione di continuare la striscia di buone prestazioni iniziata al Delfinato".

Meintjes (photo Bettini) realized once again a top quality performance in the Criterium du Dauphiné, which gave him the 8th place in the stage standing and the 9th position in the final general classification.
In the final stage of the World Tour French race (Le Pont-Superdevoluy, 151 km) LAMPRE-MERIDA's rider competed at the same level with all the the top riders, showing his great climbing skills on the 6 categorized climbs of the course.
The South African talented rider was perfect especially on t he penultimate climb of the stage, which was the Col du Noyer (1st category, summit at -10,5 km), when an attack by Contador selected the main group: the Spanish rider was immediately followed by Froome, Bardet and Porte, while Meintjes focused his attention on a regular speed which allowed him to reach the summit of the ascent with Yates and Rosa at few seconds from the leader's group, which was lated reached on the downhill.
The final ascent was approached by Meintjes in the group of the yellow-blue leader's jersey (15 members), which was chasing the solitary attacker Cummings, who was the only one rider left from the breakaway of 20 athletes which had led the race from the early kilometers. One of the members of the breakaway was Grmay, who had attacked for the third time in three consecutive days.
Cummings won the stage, the chasing group reached the arrival without being selected and Daniel Martin won the sprint, while Meintjes was 8th (+4'01").
In the final general classification, the South African cyclist from LAMPRE-MERIDA maintained the 9th place, at 1'30" to the winner Froome.
Third place in the youth standing, at 39" to Alaphilippe.
Tsgabu Grmay obtained the 2nd place in the best climbers classification, at 5 points to the winner Teklehaimanot.
"I'm happy I could compete with the top climbers in the three mountains stages, I had good feedbacks which confirmed that I worked properly in the past weeks - Meintjes said - Moreover, I received a perfect support from my team mates: we were a young group whcih cooperate in an amazing way.
Now I'll continue training hardly for coming back to France in July with the goal of continue the series of good performances I opened here in the Dauphiné".
