Gazprom – RusVelo will take part in Volta ao Alentejo
This week Gazprom – RusVelo will take part in a stage-race Volta ao Alentejo in the south of Portugal from the 22nd to 26th of February. In 2017 UCI awarded this race with a 2.1 category.

Portalegre will be the starting point of Volta ao Alentejo. The total distance of the race is 883 kilometers with it's five stages and the finish-line in the city of Evora. This year it will be the 35th competition since the foundation in 1983.

The route of Volta ao Alentejo has no long decisive climbs, which perfectly suit climbing specialists. However, most of the stages have short, but steep uphill finales. Those route types fit Roman Maikin, Gazprom – RusVelo sprinter. Due to the lack of steep hill climbs and individual time trial the fight for the victory is going to be very intense till the final stage. Every bonus second is going to play a key role to win the race.

Evgeny Shalunov, Gazprom – RusVelo rider shared his expectations about the Portugal race: «My season started perfectly, I feel that my physical condition is improving with each competition. I have already participated in Volta ao Alentejo in 2012 and my teammate has won the race in the general standings. The route is quite tough, because it has multiple short, but steep climbs. However, I feel positive about the chances to breakaway on several stages. It is vital to believe in yourself and the result will be only a matter of time».

Gazprom – RusVelo line-up: Ildar Arslanov, Igor Boev, Roman Maikin, Artem Nych, Sergey Nikolaev, Alexey Rybalkin, Evgeny Shalunov.
