02-Aug-2019: Taking place between 3-9 August, the 76th edition of the Tour de Pologne will put on the table a mix of flat and hilly stages in the first four part of the week, before making way for the GC contenders, who’ll battle out on the last three stages, to Bielsko-Biala, Koscielisko and Bukowina Tatrzanska, where not only the terrain, but also the bonus seconds will play a major role in the final outcome.
The seven-day event will mark Fabio Jakobsen’s first appearance in the beautiful National Champion jersey he conquered at the end of June, when he became the youngest rider in over a decade to win the Dutch title. Victorious in five races so far this season, Fabio will have at his side for the bunch sprints Fabio Sabatini, on whose experience and tactical nous he’ll rely on to guide him through the peloton.
First Luxembourger in more than a century to notch up a win in a cobbled Classic, Bob Jungels will be another National Champion who’ll proudly display his jersey at the Tour de Pologne, where Deceuninck – Quick-Step’s squad will be rounded out by Rémi Cavagna, James Knox (who’s coming off a solid third overall at the Adriatica Ionica Race), Pieter Serry and former Tour de Pologne stage winner Petr Vakoc.
“We can’t wait to see Fabio in his new jersey, which will give him an extra motivation on the stages expected to come down to a mass gallop. James impressed last week in Italy and will have the chance to ride for the general classification, Bob will ease back into racing, while the other guys have freedom to join the break. As you can see, we go to Poland with a strong team and are keen on racing aggressively and leaving our mark on the race”, said sports director Brian Holm ahead of the 30th World Tour event of the season.
