November 19, 2017 - BEAT Cycling Club won the team sprint in the Dutch championships at Omnisport Apeldoorn today. In the final, Bos, Van den Berg and Büchli competed against the Hoogland, Lavreysen and Van ’t Hoenderdaal trio. The BEAT team won the final in a new club record time of 43.332 seconds.
After the team’s great performances during the World Cup races in Poland and England, the BEAT trio may now call themselves Dutch champions. Bos, Büchli and Van den Berg were the fastest during qualifying as well, with a time of 43.954 seconds.
Van den Berg set a new personal record during the final, with a time of 17.34 seconds for the first lap. “This is great,” he said. “After the World Cup in Manchester we once again analyzed and adjusted my position on the bike, and I am able to put even more power through my pedals thanks to these adjustments. A victory with this time is really nice, especially looking forward to the world championships.”
Bos did not expect this result. “Normally you don’t go as fast as during a World Cup,” he said, “but now we are setting the same times – even better ones. This is partly due to the entire professional setting within the team. With this support, we as riders don’t need to worry about anything except going fast.”
Coach Tim Veldt is satisfied with the new approach. “It’s bizarre how fast we are going,” he said. “We are on a great roll here! The big difference with the other races is that we now have more rest built into the run-up to the race. We’ll see if we can apply that tactic more often.”
