Granfondo Campagnolo Roma VIII: a grand success
The eighth edition of the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma sees thousands of riders taking to the start line, and thousands more visiting the Expo Village in true festival spirit

13 October 2019 - Tonight, the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma is celebrating as a host of cyclists and their friends and families descended on the Eternal City for a weekend of cycling fun and competition.

Thousands of cyclists and visitors came to the loved event to show their support for the Eternal City’s closed road granfondo.

As the sun began shining on Rome, riders set off on their own personal journeys to complete the Mediofondo, Pedalata Storica and Roma2Bike closed-road cycling events.

Riders shared a magic atmosphere as they traversed the center of Rome on a day made even more unforgettable by beautifully clear skies and warm October temperatures, reaching 25 degrees Celsius.

The Caesars of Rome
The male rider who recorded the best combined time on the two timed sections of the Mediofondo’s course was Fabio Cini, and was crowned Re di Roma (King of Rome) ahead of second-placed Dmitry Puzanov and third, Gabriel Corredor.

Among the female riders, Natalia Shuvalova was crowned Regina di Roma (Queen of Rome), ahead of Camila Cortes and Luisa Isonni, respectively.

A true celebration of cycling
Cyclists took on the unchanged non-competitive 65km Mediofondo, the 37km Pedalata Storica for historic bikes that evoked memories of a bygone era, and the city-center Roma2Bike, a 25km ride through the closed roads of Rome.

The Expo Village in the Circo Massimo played host to thousands of visitors over the course of the long weekend, with the Area Bambini - La MiniFondo providing hours of fun and entertainment for children, enabling them to enjoy cycling within the safety of the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma organization.

Visitors were also able to get up close with a host of Italian cycling stars throughout the weekend, including the 42-time Giro d’Italia stage winner Mario Cipollini, 11-time Grand Tour stage winner Daniele Bennati, as well as Marta Bastianelli and Omar di Felice.

Riding for a cause
Many participants signed up to the Pettorale Solidale campaign, supporting the three nominated charities: La Fondazione Umberto Veronesi (Umberto Veronesi Foundation), Sport Senza Frontiere(Sport Without Frontiers) and La Fondazione per la Ricerca sulla Fibrosi Cistica (Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation), reflecting the Granfondo’s commitment to supporting charity fundraising.
